Sprocket Shaft Bearing and Seal Installation Tool Kit
Part No. 53-0060 installs sprocket shaft bearings and seals
on big twin models 1955-'02, and on Harley-Davidson
®
Sportster
®
models 1957-'03.
A.
Big twin Inner and Outer Sprocket Shaft Bearing
1955-'02 Installation
1.
Big twin Inner Sprocket Shaft Bearing
a. Place flywheel assembly in suitable holding
fixture.
b. Place
Timken
®
bearing over end of sprocket shaft.
NOTE: None of the included adapters are used when
installing big twin sprocket shaft bearings.
c. Screw the driver onto the end of the
sprocket shaft.
d. Insert
1
⁄
2
” drive ratchet wrench (not included)
into the socket on side of tool.
e. Support the top section of the tool while
turning the wrench handle to press the bearing
onto the shaft. Press the bearing onto the shaft
until seated. See Picture 1.

Big twin Outer Sprocket Shaft Bearing
a. Place sprocket side crankcase half over
sprocket shaft and installed inner bearing.
b. Place appropriate bearing spacer over shaft.
c. Place
Timken
®
bearing over end of sprocket shaft.
NOTE: None of the included adapters are used when
installing big twin sprocket shaft bearings.
d. Screw the driver onto the end of the sprocket
shaft.
e. Insert

⁄
2
” drive ratchet wrench (not included)
into the socket on side of tool.
f. Support the top section of the tool while
turning the wrench handle to press the
bearing onto the shaft. Press the bearing onto
the shaft until seated against the bearing
spacer. See Picture 2.

1957-'03 Installation
1.
Sportster
®
model Inner Sprocket Shaft Bearing
a. Place flywheel assembly in suitable holding
fixture.
b. Place Timken
®
bearing over end of sprocket
shaft.
NOTE: Two of the included adapters are used with the
driver to install Sportster
®
model sprocket shaft bearings.
c.
Screw sprocket shaft adapter (Item 7) onto the
end of the driver, and then place spacer
adapter (Item 8) on top of the bearing sitting
on the sprocket shaft. See Figure 1.
d. Screw the driver onto the end of the
sprocket shaft.
e. Insert

" drive ratchet wrench (not included)
into the socket on side of the driver.
f. Support the top section of the tool while
turning the wrench handle to press the bearing
onto the shaft. Press the bearing onto the shaft
until seated. See Picture 1.
