INSTALLATION; VICTORY, INDIAN (2009-2011) CAN-AM SPYDER AND METRIC
CRUISERS:
1. Loosen throttle cable adjusting jam nuts and back off cable adjusters (Fig 1).
2. Remove 2 bolts that holds the switch housing halves together and the bolt that holds
cable retainer to switch housing, separate housing and remove both cable ends from
throttle grip (Fig 2 & 3).
a. When removing cables from grip be careful not to crimp cables.
b. Mark cables to identify front and rear cables for re-assembly.
3. Remove front half of switch housing from bike (Fig 4).
4. Insert alignment pin into jig block and thread into existing threaded hole in switch housing
(Fig 5). This will align the jig centered over the existing threaded hole.
5. Insert ¼- 20 bolt into the other hole in the drill jig, thread into the special nut and tighten.
6. Remove alignment pin.
The next two steps involve enlarging the original threaded hole in the switch housing and
installing the Cruise-Mate cartridge. Use extreme caution while drilling and tapping the housing
that the new threads are installed straight.
WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND USING THE DRILL JIG PROVIDED WITH YOUR CRUISE-
MATE KIT AND FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY.
SPECIAL NOTE FOR CAN-AM SPYDER
CAN-AM SPYDER USES A HARD RUBBER CONTROL ASSEMBLY (SWITCH HOUSING) AND
CONSEQUENTLY THE DRILL BIT WILL HAVE A TENDENCY TO GRAB AND PULL THROUGH VERY
QUICKLY SO BE EXTRA CAREFUL WHEN DRILLING. WE RECOMMEND HOLDING BACK
SLIGHTLY ON THE DRILL.
7. Insert plastic drill guide bushing into jig block and drill out original 10-32 threaded hole to
21/64 inches .
a. We recommend holding housing in a vice, if available, while drilling hole so drill bit
won’t catch when it passes through housing.
8. Remove plastic drill guide bushing and using hole in jig block to guide tap, thread the new
hole using a 3/8-24 tap.
9. Remove drill jig from housing.
10. Drill out middle hole in cable retainer to 3/8 so the threaded stainless steel bushing fits
through the hole (Fig 6).
a. We recommend using a step drill (fig 9) and holding in vice if possible.
11. At the bottom of the
throttle grip there’s a small seam caused by the molding process,
using a fine file or sandpaper remove this mold line.
a. Failure to remove the mold line may prevent Cruise-Mate from working properly.
12. Replace grip and cables and re-assemble switch housing using the Cruise-Mate bushing
as the bolt to hold cable retainer in place (Fig 7).
13. Replace housing fasteners and tighten.
14. Using a 7/16 wrench, tighten Cruise-Mate bushing.
15. Return cable-adjusting nuts to original position and tighten adjuster jam nut.
