Do not over-tighten screws, otherwise mounting holes may become stripped.
Exhaust System
Spark Arrestor Screen
Level 2.
Carbon deposits in muffler will cause a drop in engine output and overheating. Spark arrestor screen must
be checked periodically.
1. Remove spark plug lead from spark plug.
2. Remove engine cover.
3. Remove exhaust deflector (A), spark arrestor cover (B),
gasket (C), and spark arrestor screen (D) from muffler.
Replace screen if plugged with carbon deposits.
Note: When cleaning carbon deposits, be careful not to damage
the catalytic element inside muffler.
4. Clean carbon deposits from muffler components.
5. Install spark arrestor screen, gasket, and covers.
6. Install engine cover.
7. Attach spark plug lead.
Exhaust Port Cleaning
Level 2.
1. Remove spark plug lead from spark plug, and remove
engine cover.
2. Place piston at top dead center. Remove muffler (A) and
heat shield (B).
3. Use a wood or plastic scraping tool to clean deposits from
cylinder exhaust port.
Never use a metal tool to scrape carbon from the exhaust port. Do not scratch the cylinder or piston when
cleaning the exhaust port. Do not allow carbon particles to enter the cylinder.
