 To increase the amount of backlash, increase the shim thickness
‘D’ (Fig.6.) and decrease the shim thickness ‘E’ (Fig. 6.) by the
same amount. Reverse this step to decrease the backlash.
 Remount the differential as before.
 Release spreader tension (if applicable).
 Check backlash again as before.
4.8 Profiling the Seal Housing Tube
 Completely remove the differential spreader (if applicable).
 Without using sharp, jagged tools such as pliers (usually your
hands are the best tool for this job), gently bend the seal housing
tube so that it runs along the inside of the differential housing as
shown in Figure 12.

NOTE : It is also a good idea to keep the tube away from the
bearing caps or any other part of the differential
casting as any contact due to vibration or shock may
wear the tube and eventually cause a leak.
