Tech alert – Santronics Keyless Entry Tester User Manual

Different model vehicles require specific keyless transmitter
types. When testing new or used vehicle systems, be sure the correct
keyless transmitter type is matched to the vehicle remote system.
Many original equipment systems have similar keyless
transmitter case styles but will only operate certain year model or
body style systems.
Example: Cadillac automobiles have up to four different
keyless transmitter types. If a keyless transmitter test passes all
functions and the vehicle is not responding, check with your parts
department to make sure you are using the correct keyless
transmitter for the application.
This is very important since the wrong transmitter will pass
the function test but the receiver will not respond if the wrong model
transmitter is used.
The signal transmitted from the keyless transmitter is com-
bined with coded data. It is possible for a keyless transmitter to
transmit the signal with faulty coded data. If this is the case, the
keyless transmitter will test good but will not operate the vehicle
remote system. This failure type is very rare and will require the
technician to substitute a known good keyless transmitter for
additional vehicle system testing.
Remote systems that use “rolling code technology” keyless
transmitters could be out of synchronization with the receiver. Before
keyless transmitter substitution, check the system owners manual for
system synchronization instructions.
