Region codes
There are six region codes, or “country codes”, which are used
to prevent playback of certain discs in certain geographical
regions. DVD players will not play discs that are not allowed in
the region.
If you insert a DVD disc whose region code is different from the
currently-set value, a dialog appears where you can change the
region code for your location.
You can only change Region Codes five times.
Region 1 The U.S., U.S. territories and Canada.
Region 2
Europe, Japan, the Middle East,
Egypt, South Africa, Greenland.
Region 3
Taiwan, Korea, the Philippines,
Indonesia, Hong Kong.
Region 4
Mexico, South America, Central
America, Australia, New Zealand,
Pacific Islands, Caribbean
Region 5
Russia, Eastern Europe, India, most of
Africa, North Korea, Mongolia.
