1. Area of applicability
These safety instructions apply to the ultrasonic sensors of type series OPTISOUND 3040/3050 C
VF3*4.GX***VD**X with the integrated oscillators SN64-66H according to the EC type approval
certificate BVS 05 ATEX E 126.(certification number on the type label).
2. General
The ultrasonic sensors OPTISOUND 3040/3050 C VF3*4.GX***VD**X are used for monitoring and
control function even in areas with combustible and dust generating solids.
The ultrasonic sensors OPTISOUND 3040/3050 C VF3*4.GX***VD**X encompass a transducer, a
metallic process fitting element and the evaluation electronics in a powder coated double chamber
housing made of aluminium.
If required the adjustment and indication module, can be installed in OPTISOUND 3040/3050 C
VF3*4.GX***VD**X housing for parameter adjustment or visualisation.
The ultrasonic sensors OPTISOUND 3040/3050 C VF3*4.GX***VD**X are suitable for use is
hazardous atmospheres of combustible dusts, for applications requiring instruments of category 1/2 D
or 2 D.
If the ultrasonic sensors OPTISOUND 3040/3050 C VF3*4.GX***VD**X are installed and operated in
hazardous areas the general Ex mounting instructions and these safety instructions have to be
observed.
The operating instructions and the appropriate Ex mounting instructions have to be observed
The installation of Ex systems must always be carried out by trained personnel.
The requirements of EN50281-1-2 e.g. in respect to dust generation and temperatures have to be
fulfilled.
Category 1/2 D instruments
The electronics housing is installed in hazardous areas requiring instruments of category 2D. The
process fitting element is installed in the separating wall which separates areas requiring instruments
of category 2D or 1D. The transducer with the mechanical mounting is installed in hazardous areas of
category 1D.
Category 2 D instruments
The electronics housing and the transducer with the mechanical mounting element are installed in
hazardous areas requiring instruments of category 2D.
