OPERATOR’S
GUIDE

Notes:
• A fully charged Smart Battery will provide a minimum
operating time of 2.0 hours in the monitoring mode for the PD
2000/D 2000, and PD 1400/D 1400 devices and 1.5 hours in the
monitoring mode for the ZOLL 1600 and ZOLL 1700.
• It is normal for the Smart Battery to show as much as 1.5
hours of monitoring run time left on the defibrillator when the
Low Battery message is displayed on the screen.
• The battery level display will illuminate when it is inserted into
the charger or when it is in a monitor/defibrillator and the unit is
turned on. It can take up to 10 seconds for the Battery Level
display to turn on. (The display may turn off near the end of the
charge cycle).
• If a fully charged battery is inserted into a charger all of the
indicators may remain off.
• When the
+
?
Press For Display button is depressed at
least one LED will always illuminate with no delay. If a fault is
present, only the Fault indicator will illuminate while the Battery
Level indicators remain off.
• Before storing batteries, make sure that they are fully charged.
• The top indicator of a fully charged ready Smart Battery in
storage should extinguish between 3 and 5 weeks. If the
indicator extinguishes before three (3) weeks or after 5 weeks a
fault condition may exist.
Charging, Testing and Recalibration
ZOLL Smart Batteries may be charged by any of ZOLL's
Charging systems. Use of any other charger will not allow Smart
Battery gauge to be fully operational but the battery will still be
charged.
Recalibration, the act of restoring full and accurate function to
the Smart Battery must be performed using the Base
PowerCharger4x4 or a ZOLL Battery Support System labeled
"Smart Battery Ready." (Older model Battery Support Systems
may require upgrades to enable this recalibration. Please
contact your local sales representative.)
Recalibration is necessary when the battery has been used
approximately 20 times or the
+
FAULT - Test Battery
indicator is illuminated on the Smart Battery. Recalibration is
performed by placing the Smart Battery in the Base
PowerCharger4x4 or a ZOLL Battery Support System labeled
"Smart Battery Ready" and pressing the TEST button.
The modular AC PowerCharger which attaches to the ZOLL
Monitor/Defibrillator is unable to recalibrate the Smart Battery.
AC PowerCharger users should place the Smart Battery in the
Base PowerCharger
4x4
or a ZOLL Battery Support System
labeled "Smart Battery Ready" and press the TEST button for
recalibration. It is also possible to recalibrate the Smart Battery
by draining the Smart Battery from a fully charged state to shut
off in a ZOLL defibrillator and then recharging.
ZOLL Medical Corporation recommends that all Smart Batteries
be tested for capacity at least every 90 days.
