General information

The measured values serve only as indica

tors to observe longterm changes. They

do not substitute medical supervision or a

doctor’s consultation. For more information

about your body fat, body water, bone mass

and muscle mass percentages and their

ideal values, please consult your physician.

Tip: To collect comparable values it is

recommended to weigh yourself each day

at the same time and under the same con

ditions (preferably three hours after meals

or exercise).

Note: The measurement results are not

meaningful for children under 10 years

of age.

The individual measurement values can

not be realistically added because muscles

contain water, for example.

L

Activity mode

Scientific studies have shown that the body

composition of competitive athletes varies

significantly from recreational athletes and

people who don’t exercise. The scale thus

allows you to specify your own personal

fitness on five different levels.

Activity levels

1

no sporting activity

2

light, sporadic sporting activity

3

light but regular sporting activity

4

regular sporting activity

5

endurance / performance sport

E

How do the scales measure body fat?

The scales measure the body fat percentage

using the Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis

(BIA) method. To take this measurement,

the appliance sends an extremely weak

electrical signal through your body

and measures your body’s resistance

(impedance) to this signal. The impedance

is affected by your body’s composition.

Since they contain water, your muscles and

organs are good conductors. Fat, on the

other hand, is a bad conductor.

The scales compute the body fat percent

age from the measured resistance and the

values stored in the User Profile (height,

age, gender).

Since people’s body fat percentage is highly

individual, the values shown in Table

F on

the foldout page are only guidelines.

M

Body water values

The body fat and body water measurements

are influenced by the amount of water in

your body. The water volume is affected by

the time of day, physical exertion, bathing

or showering, menstruation, eating, drinking

and other factors. Illnesses or medications

can also affect the measurement.

Please also refer to Table

E on the

foldout page.

N

What is muscle mass?

This function displays the computed skel

etal muscle mass (guideline value) in your

body. Human beings have more than 600

muscles. They play an important role

(motion, posture, etc.) and consume energy.

As muscle mass increases (more activity

and exercise), the consumption of energy

(calories) rises and the body fat percentage

decreases.

G on the

foldout page.
