COLONY MEASURING
Each BioPaddle has molded media points
that are 4 mm in length (point to point).
This feature provides a useful guide for
estimating colony size.
ENUMERATION
Total Colony Count
For liquid samples in 40 mL BioPaddle vial
For BioPaddles with
less than 300
colonies
• Liquid Sample Using BioPaddle Vial (40 mL sample)
Multiply count by 25.
• Surface Sample – Touch surface twice (20 cm
2
area).
Count colonies.
• Passive Air Sample
Count colonies.
For BioPaddles with
300 colonies or greater
• Liquid Sample Using BioPaddle Vial (40 mL sample)
Compare to panels. Multiply count by 2.5.
• Surface Sample – Touch surface twice (20 cm

area).
Compare to panels.

DISPOSAL
Twist to remove paddle from vial. Fill vial to 40 mL fi ll line with
1:9 dilution of household bleach (5.25% sodium hypochlorite).
Replace paddle in vial. Allow 15 minute contact time. Remove
paddle. Discard bleach solution. Replace paddle in vial and
dispose. Alternatively, loosen cap and microwave for 30
seconds, autoclave, or incinerate.
