capscrews and nuts (not supplied) to temporarily
secure the seal plate to the pedestal.

Subassemble the rotating element into the retainer
and bellows. Lubricate the I.D. of the bellows with
water, and slide this subassembly over the shaft
sleeve until the seal face is just flush with the under
cut end of the sleeve.

To prevent damaging the shaft sleeve O‐ring (11)
on the shaft threads, stretch the O‐ring over a piece
of tubing 7/8 inch I.D. x 1 inch O.D. x 2‐inches long
(22 mm x 25 mm x 51 mm). Slide the tube over the
shaft threads, then slide the O‐ring off the tube and
onto the shaft. Remove the tube, and continue to
slide the O‐ring down the shaft until it seats against
the shaft shoulder.

Slide the assembled shaft sleeve and rotating por
tion of the seal and onto the shaft until the polished
faces contact. Continue to push the sleeve through
the seal until it is fully seated against the shaft
shoulder.

Install the seal spring and spring centering washer
(9).

Impeller Installation

Inspect the impeller and replace it if cracked or
badly worn.

Install the same thickness of impeller shims (4) as
previously removed.

Install the impeller key (8) in the shaft keyway. The
key should protrude approximately 1/4 inch (6

mm) from the end of the shaft. Align the impeller
keyway with the key and slide the impeller onto the
shaft until fully seated.

Immobilize the impeller by inserting a bar between
the impeller vanes, being careful not to damage
the vanes. Install the impeller washer (32), a new
impeller capscrew (34) and the impeller lockwash
er (33). Torque the impeller capscrew (34) to 20 ft.
lbs. (240 in. lbs. or 2,8 m. kg.). Remove the bar
from the impeller vanes.

Pump Reassembly

If removed at disassembly, press the replacement
wear ring (37) into the pump casing until it seats
squarely against the shoulder bore.

The wear ring must seat squarely in the
casing bore or binding and/or excessive
wear will result.

For maximum pump efficiency, the impeller should
be centered within the volute scroll.

To verify the impeller positioning, measure the
pump casing and impeller as shown in Figure 3.
Use these measurements to calculate the required
impeller location (dimension E). Add or remove
gaskets in the casing gasket set (5) until dimension
E is obtained.
