PUMP AND SEAL DISASSEMBLY
AND REASSEMBLY
Review all SAFETY information in Section A.
Follow the instructions on all tags, label and de-
cals attached to the pump.
This pump requires little service due to its rugged,
minimum-maintenance design. However, if it be-
comes necessary to inspect or replace the wearing
parts, follow these instructions which are keyed to
the sectional view (see Figure E−1) and the ac-
companying parts list.
This manual will alert personnel to known proce-
dures which require special attention, to those
which could damage equipment, and to those
which could be dangerous to personnel. However,
this manual cannot possibly anticipate and provide
detailed precautions for every situation that might
occur during maintenance of the unit. Therefore, it
is the responsibility of the owner/maintenance per-
sonnel to ensure that only safe, established main-
tenance procedures are used, and that any proce-
dures not addressed in this manual are performed
only after establishing that neither personal safety
nor pump integrity are compromised by such prac-
tices.
Before attempting to service the pump, disconnect
or lock out the power source to ensure that the
pump will remain inoperative. Close all valves in the
suction and discharge lines.
For power source disassembly and repair, consult
the literature supplied with the power source, or
contact your local power source representative.
Before attempting to open or service the
pump:
1. Familiarize yourself with this man-
ual.
2. Disconnect or lock out the power
source to ensure that the pump will
remain inoperative.
3. Allow the pump to completely cool
if overheated.
4. Check the temperature before
opening any covers, plates, or
plugs.
5. Close the suction and discharge
valves.
6. Vent the pump slowly and cau-
tiously.
7. Drain the pump.
Suction Check Valve Removal
Before attempting to service the check valve as-
sembly (51), remove the casing drain plug (37) and
drain the pump. Clean and reinstall the drain plug.
Remove the suction piping and gasket (not shown)
from the check valve flange (50).
Remove the flat head capscrews (68) and separate
the check valve assembly (51) and gasket (69)
from the check valve flange.
Remove the button head capscrews (54) securing
the upper check valve shaft (60) to the flanged seat
(57).
Remove the second pair of button head capscrews
(53) from the lower check valve shaft and separate
the check valve from the shaft. Remove the hard-
ware (52 and 55) and separate the check valve (59)
from the valve plate (61).
Suction Plate and Wear Ring Removal
Disengage the hardware (47, 48, 49, 76 and 77),
and separate the check valve flange (50), gasket
(78) and spacers (80) and wear ring (42) from the
pump casing (1).
Remove the hardware (66 and 67) and separate
the suction plate (79) from the check valve flange.
Disengage the nuts (44) and use the jam nuts (45)
to jack" the wear ring out of the pump casing.
Inspect the wear ring and O-rings (41 and 46) for
excessive wear or damage and replace as re-
quired.
Pump Casing Removal
The impeller assembly (2) and seal assembly (3)
may be removed through the suction port without
