The standard quarter rack width products mount in one of four
locations in the front of the rack.
The quarter rack VersaTools products mount in one of eight
locations in the front or rear of the rack.
The eighth rack VersaTools products mount in one of eight
locations to the rear of the rack or in one of eight locations to the
front of the rack.
1 . If the device being installed has rubber feet, remove them.
2 . Place the device on the shelf so that its two threaded holes line up
with two holes in the 1U shelf. Use two 4-40 x 3/16" screws or two
6-32 x 1/8" screws to secure the device onto the shelf (figure 3).
• Use 6-32 x 1/8" screws for all INxxxx and TPR101 one-third
rack width
products.
• Use 4-40 x 3/16" screws for all other products.
Use 2 mounting holes
on opposite corners.

3 . If additional devices are being installed, follow steps 1 and 2 to
mount the devices on other portions of the shelf.
4 . If there is a large gap in the front of the panel, install the half rack
width, quarter rack width, and/or eighth rack width false
faceplate(s) onto the unused area of the shelf using two
4-40 x 3/16" screws.
Installing INxxxx half rack products on this shelf leaves a small
(1/8" [0.3 cm]) gap on either side of the installed product. This is
normal.
A combination of faceplates can fill gaps that are caused by
mixing half rack width, quarter rack width, and eighth rack width
products. There is no combination of faceplates that can fill the
gaps created when you are installing one-third rack width
products.
One of each faceplate, in the charcoal gray finish, is included with
the universal rack shelf. All faceplates, in either finish, are
available as accessories. See Part Numbers, on the rear of this
User’s Guide.
Installing the Shelf in a Rack
1 . Use the four 10-32 x 3/4" black screws with captive washers to
mount the 1U shelf in the rack (figure 4).

2 . When the shelf is mounted, continue the installation by connecting
the input, output, and power cables.
