7.2.14 Maintenance and Installation of the Single Bearing Bracket Assembly
For Right and Left Single Bearing Bracket Assemblies repeat steps 7.2.14.1 through 7.2.14.20
7.2.14.1 Place the Single Bearing Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 item 4) that was removed in a vise.
7.2.14.2 With a 5/32” / 4mm diameter drift punch remove 3/16” x 1-1/4” long Spring Pin (Figure 6 item 11) from
the Sprocket (Figure 6 item 2) and 3/16” x 1” long Spring Pin (Figure 6 item 10) from the Pinion Gear
(Figure 6 item 4).
NOTE: Save 3/16” x 1-1/4” long Spring Pin (Figure 6 item 11) and 3/16” x 1” long Spring Pin (Figure 6
item 10) for reuse at a later time.
7.2.14.3 With a 5/32” allen wrench loosen the Socket Set Screw (Figure 6 item 7) in the Sprocket (Figure 6 item
2) and Pinion Gear (Figure 6 item 4) of the Single Bearing Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 item 4).
7.2.14.4 Remove the Sprocket (Figure 6 item 2) from the axle (Figure 6 item 3) of the Single Bearing Bracket
Assembly (Figure 5 item 4).
7.2.14.5 With a 1/4" / 6mm drift punch drive the Axle (Figure 6 item 3) and Pinion Gear (Figure 6 item 4)
assembly out of the Left Single Bearing Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 item 4).
7.2.14.6 Drive Axle (Figure 6 item 3) out of Pinion Gear (Figure 6 item 4) with a 1/4" / 6mm drift punch.
7.2.14.7 Press the new Axle (Figure 6 item 3) into Sprocket (Figure 6 item 2) until is flush with the face of the
sprocket opposite the sprocket hub.
7.2.14.8 Place a 3/16” drill in the 3/16” hole of the Sprocket (Figure 6 item 2) and drill completely through the
Axle (Figure 6 item 3) and Sprocket of the Single Bearing Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 items 4).
Warning: Redrilling of the old Axle will severely weaken the axle
7.2.14.9 Reinstall the 3/16” X1-1/4” long Spring Pin (Figure 7 item 13) in the 3/16” drilled hole in the Sprocket
(Figure 6 item 2).
7.2.14.10 Press the Axle (Figure 6 item 3) and Sprocket (Figure 6 item 2) assembly into the Single Bearing Bracket
Assembly (Figure 5 item 4).
7.2.14.11 Place the 2 of the 1/2" Washers (Figure 6 item 12 on the axle (Figure 6 item 3).
7.2.14.12 Press the Pinion Gear (Figure 6 item 4) on to the axle (Figure 6 item 3)
7.2.14.13 With a 5/32” allen wrench snub the Socket Set Screw (Figure 6 item 7) in the Pinion Gear (Figure 6 item
4) so it will turn with some resistance.
7.2.14.14 Place the Drive Chain (Figure 5 item 14) on the Crank Gear and Double Sprocket (Figure 7 item 4) of the
Left Double Bearing Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 item 5).
7.2.14.15 Place the other end of the Drive Chain (Figure 5 item 15) on the Sprocket (Figure 6 item 2) of the Left
Single Bearing Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 item 4).
7.2.14.16 Move the Left Single Bearing Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 item 4) in position on the backside of the
Saddle (Figure 5 item1), while rotating the Pinion Gear (Figure 6 item 4) so teeth mesh in the teeth of
Ring Gear (Figure 5 item 3).
7.2.14.17 Install the 3/8-16 x 7/8” Hex Head Cap Screws (Figure 5 item 11) and 3/8” Washer (Figure 6 item 13)
through the Left Single Bearing Bracket (Figure 5 item 4) and screw into the Saddle (Figure 5 item 1).
7.2.14.18 The should be a .005” to .007” gap between the Pinion Gear (Figure 7 item 9) of Left Single Bearing
Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 item 4) and the teeth of Ring Gear (Figure 5 item 3).
7.2.14.19 Snug the 3/8-16 x 7/8” Hex Head Cap Screws (Figure 5 item 11) with a 9/16” wrench until it cannot be
moved by hand.
7.2.14.20 Move the Left Single Bearing Bracket (Figure 5 item 4) downward with a soft face mallet stretching the
Side Drive Chain (Figure 5 item 14) until it is tight while maintaining the .005” to .007” gap between the
Pinion Gear (Figure 6 item 4) and the teeth of Ring Gear (Figure 5 item 3).
7.2.14.21 Install the Crank Handle Assembly (Figure 7 item 2 on the Crank Pinion (Figure 7 item 3) of the Double
Bearing Bracket Assemblies (Figure 5 item 5).
