7.2 Installation of a New Drive Chains
Installation of a new Top and Side Drive Chains (Figure 5 item 14 & 15) will also require the
purchase of an Axle (Figure 5 item 4).
Note: Redrilling of the old Axle will severely weaken the axle.
7.2.1
Remove the Top and Side Tie Rod Handles (Figure 5 items 6 & 7) from the Single and Double Bearing
Bracket Assemblies (Figure 5 items 4 & 5) by removing 3/8-16 X 1-1/4” long Hex Head Cap Screws
(Figure 5 item 12 ) and Washer (Figure 5 item 13) using a 9/16" wrench.
NOTE: Save Hex Head Cap Screws (Figure 5 item 12) and Washer (Figure 5 item 13).
7.2.2
Remove the Crank Handles (Figure 7 item 2) from the Right and Left Double Bearing Bracket
Assemblies (Figure 5 item 5).
7.2.3
Remove middle and outermost 3/8-16 x 7/8” Hex Head Cap Screws (Figure 4 item 11) and 3/8”
Washer (Figure 5 item 13) from the Left Single Bearing Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 item 4) with a
9/16” wrench.
7.2.4
Tilt the Left Single Bearing Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 item 4) toward the Left Double Bearing
Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 item 5).
7.2.5
Remove the Drive Chain (Figure 5 item 15) from the Sprocket (Figure 6 item 2) of Left Single Bearing
Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 item 4) and Crank Gear and Double Sprocket (Figure 7 item 4) of the Left
Double Bearing Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 item 5).
7.2.6
Remove middle and outermost 3/8-16 x 7/8” Hex Head Cap Screws (Figure 5 item 11) and 3/8”
Washer (Figure 4 item 12) from the Right Single Bearing Bracket Assembly (Figure 4 item 4) with a
9/16” wrench.
7.2.7
Tilt the Right Single Bearing Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 item 4) toward the Right Double Bearing
Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 item 4).
7.2.8
Remove the Drive Chain (Figure 5 item 15) from the Sprocket (Figure 6 item 2) of Right Single
Bearing Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 item 4) and Crank Gear and Double Sprocket (Figure 7 item 4) of
the Right Double Bearing Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 item 4).
7.2.9
Remove the center and outermost 3/8-16 x 7/8” Hex Head Cap Screws (Figure 5 item 11) and 3/8”
Washer (Figure 5 item 13) from the Left Double Bearing Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 item 5) with a
9/16” wrench.
Note: Do not loosen the 3/8-16 x 7/8” Hex Head Cap Screws (Figure 5 item 11) that hold the Right
Double Bearing Bracket (Figure 5 item 5) to the Saddle (Figure 5 item 3).
7.2.10 Tilt the Left Double Bearing Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 item 5) inward toward the Right Double
Bearing Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 item 5).
7.2.11 Remove the Drive Chain (Figure 5 item 14) from the Crank Gear and Double Sprocket (Figure 7 item
4) of the Left Double Bearing Bracket Assemblies (Figure 5 item 5) and the Crank Gear and Double
Sprocket (Figure 7 item 4) of the Right Double Bearing Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 item 5).
7.2.12 Install the new Drive Chain (Figure 4 item 14) onto the Crank Gear and Double Sprocket (Figure 7
item 4) of the Left Double Bearing Bracket Assemblies (Figure 5 item 5) and the Crank Gear and
Double Sprocket (Figure 7 item 4) of the Right Double Bearing Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 item 5).
7.2.13 Reinstall the center and outermost 3/8-16 x 7/8” Hex Head Cap Screws (Figure 5 item 11) and 3/8”
Washer (Figure 5 item 13) into the Left Double Bearing Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 item 5) and
thread into Saddle (Figure 5 item 3) until they are tight.
7.2.14 Stretch the new Top Drive Chain (Figure 5 item 14) by moving the Left Double Bearing Bracket
Assembly (Figure 5 item 5) with a soft face mallet.
7.2.15 Retighten all 3/8-16 x 7/8” Hex Head Cap Screws (Figure 5 item 11) that attach the Left Double
Bearing Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 item 5) to Saddle (Figure 5 item 3).
7.2.16 Install the new Drive Chain (Figure 5 item 14) on Crank Gear and Double Sprocket (Figure 7 item 4)
of the Right Double Bearing Bracket Assemblies (Figure 5 item 5) and the Sprocket (Figure 6 item 2)
of the Right Single Bearing Bracket Assembly (Figure 5 item 4).
