The NID-01VTJ has four connections:

ƒ Modem – customer’s xDSL modem
ƒ Line – the incoming line
ƒ Phone - customer’s telephone
ƒ Test Jack – verify connection to central office

If the wires have been previously used, cut-off
approximately ½” from the end, before inserting into
the IDC (Insulation Displacement Connector) on the
NID-01VTJ.

Making IDC connections:
Push each IDC away from you, until it swings open
and stops.

Carefully observe the proper orientation of the Tip-
Ring leads. Do not remove the insulation from
the wire and maintain the wire twist.
Insert each
pair of wires into the appropriate IDC about ½”.

Press the IDC closed, until the IDC latches lock into
place. It will take some force to close the IDC, with
the thicker wire gauges taking more effort.

Testing

To test the NID-01VTJ for correct operation, connect a phone to the phone jack and lift the handset - you should
hear dial tone.

The modem status light should be illuminated indicating xDSL service. You may have to refer to the xDSL modem
users guide to correctly interpret the meaning of its status indicators.

Once tested, secure the wires.

Warranty

The NID-01VTJ is covered by a 3-year warranty under normal operating conditions. Defective units should be returned to
Comtest Networks where they will be replaced or repaired and returned to the user. The NID-01VTJ contains no user
serviceable parts. Opening the plastic housing voids the warranty and may expose the user to hazardous voltages.
