5 Installation
Setup instructions for optimum sound —
• All speakers sound best when they have plenty of room to "breathe".
(Notice show reports how manufacturers place their speakers in the hotel
rooms far from room boundaries.) The optimum amount of space is 10
milliseconds for the first reflection. Strive to get as close to the ideal as your
room will allow. Because the Mini Maggie is a desk system does not negate
the laws of physics.
• Bass Panel operating in dipole manner with baffling as shown on webpage.
• Tweeters on the outside with 1 ohm resistors for attenuation due to near-
field listening.
• For better high frequency dispersion, tilt Mini back with rubber bumpers
under speaker base.
• Use Class AB amplifier (We have been disappointed in the little,
inexpensive Class D amplifiers.)
• Place the DWM Woofer under the desk, in the foot well, and far forward to
allow room for your feet. (Don't worry if you accidentally kick it. It is not
delicate.) However, do not place the Woofer directly against the front foot
well panel. A heavy or solid wood front panel that blocks most of the rear
wave from the DWM Woofer will reduce bass output since there is little
room for the woofer to "breath". A dipole woofer is different from a
conventional dynamic woofer and may require some experimentation to
find the best placement. Bass response can be enhanced if one edge of the
woofer panel can be placed perpendicular to a barrier (reducing dipole
cancellation).
