A WARNING
Never turn the saw upside down to undercut. The
saw cannot be controlled in this position.

TYPES OF CUTTING USED

—Overcutting
- begin on the top side of the log
with spur or saw frame against the log; exert
light pressure downward.

— Undercutting
- begin on the under side of the
log with the top of Uie saw against the tog; exert
light pressure upward. During undercutting, the
saw will tend to push backiat you. Be prepared
for this reaction and hold the saw firmly to main
tain control.

WARNING
If saw becomes pinched or hung in a log, don’t try to
force it out.
You
can lose control of the saw resulting In
personal injuryand/ordamageto the saw. Stop the saw,
drive a wedge of plastic or wood into the cut untli the
saw can be removed easiiy. Figure 25. Restart the saw
and carefully reenter the cut. Do not use a metal wedge
to avoid kicl^ackand chain damage.
3. BUCKING—WITHOUT A SUPPORT

D. DEBRANCHING AND PRUNING
• Work slowly, keeping both hands on the saw
with a firm grip.
Maintain secure fppting and bal
ance.
• Watch out for springpoles.
Use extreme caution
when cutting small size iimbs. Slender material may
catch the saw chain and be whipped toward you or
pull off balance.
Be alert for sprlngback.
Watch out for branches
that are bent or under pressure as you are cutting to
avoid being struck by the branch or the saw when the
tension in the wood fibers is released.
Keep a clear work area.
