Note: because the BFD2 JEX expansion kit has a maximum of 40 velocity layers, the Large and Medium install
sizes are the same.
Drum Kit & Recording notes
The BFD2 JEX Expansion Kit was produced by John Emrich and recorded at Omega Studios, Rockville,
Maryland - one of the largest recording and education facilities on the US East coast..
The drums in this custom X-Drums set feature 6-ply Keller Maple shells with an additional ply of Sapeli
Pommele running vertically, resulting in excellent, focused low-end. The finish is hand-applied tung oil, which
leads to a very open tone. The kick drum was hit with both a wood and felt beater, and the toms were all played
with sticks, mallets, brushes and rods.
There is a bonus detail-reduced snare drum taken from the BFD Jazz & Funk expansion pack, available for
download from the registered users’ download area for the BFD2 JEX expansion kit. This snare is provided in
stick and brushed versions. If you already own the Jazz & Funk expansion pack, you do NOT need to install
this bonus snare.
Note that there are no hihats or cymbals included in this expansion kit.

Direct Channels
Kick Drum
Beta52 and Fet47 into an API 3124 preamp.
The Kick Out channel is blended with a Yamaha Subkick recorded into an ATI 8MX2 Preamp.
Snare (for bleed)
Shure Beta57 into an API 3124 preamp (top)
EV N/D 457 on bottom into an API 3124 preamp (bottom)
Toms
Violet Design Globe into an API 8MX2 preamp.
Overhead
Violet Design Black Knight (2) into an API 8MX2.
Room
Violet Design prototype (omni) (2) into Focusrite ISA115 preamps, then into an SPL Transient Designer.
Alternate Room
Nevatone MC 404 (2) into a Metric Halo ULN2+DSP interface.
