TROUBLESHOOTING CHART
PROBLEM CAUSE CORRECTION
Loss of power • Cutting too much grass/too
fast.
• Set in “Higher Cut" position/
reduce speed.
• Throttle in “CHOKE”
position.
• Adjust throttle control.
• Build-up of grass, leaves
and trash under mower.
• Clean underside of mower
housing.
• Dirty air filter. • Clean/replace air filter.
• Low oil tevel/dirty oil. • Check oil level/change oil.
• Faulty spark plug. • Clean and regap or change
spark plug.
• Dirty fuel filter. • Replace fuel filter.
• Stale or dirty fuel. • Drain fuei tank and refiil with
fresh gasoline.
• Water in fuel. • Drain fuel tank and carburetor
refill tank with fresh gasoline
and replace fuel filter.
• Spark plug wire loose. • Connect and tighten spark
plug wire.
• Dirty engine air screen/fins. • Clean engine air screen/fins.
• Dirty/clogged muffler. • Clean/replace muffler.
• Loose or damaged wiring. • Check all wiring.
• Carburetor out of
adjustment.
• See “To Adjust Carburetor'’ in
Service Adjustments section.
• Engine valves out of
adjustment.
• Contact an authorized
service center/department.
Excessive
vibration
• Worn, bent or loose blade. • Replace blade.
Tighten blade bolt.
• Bent blade mandrel. • Replace blade mandrel.
• Loose/damaged part(s). • Tighten loose part(s).
Replace damaged parts.
Engine continues
to run when oper­
ator leaves seat
with attachment

• Check wiring, switches and
connections. If not

Poor cut - uneven • Worn, bent or loose blade. • Replace blade.
Tighten blade bolt.

• Clean underside of mower
housing.
• Bent blade mandrel. • Replace blade mandrel.
• Clogged mower deck vent
holes from buildup of
grass, leaves, and trash
around mandrels.
• Clean around mandrels to
open vent holes.
Mower blades will
not rotate • Obstruction in clutch
mechanism.
• Remove obstruction.
• Worn/damaged mower
drive belt.
• Replace mower drive belt.
• Frozen idler pulley. • Replace idler pulley.
• Frozen blade mandrel. • Replace blade mandrel.
