5. USING THE DIGITAL MODULE
typically is where you want to set your 0VU reference, or average operating level of all
following equipment.
The Gain indicators in the individual channel status readout are used to show when the
channel is in a test tone mode with a blinking bar. When the test tone is activated, it is
not possible to adjust the input gain on the channel being tested. Also, the MicLim™ and
26dB PAD functions are defeated.
Starting and Stopping the Test Tone
1. Put the 1788A in Local Control.
2. Hold down either the -20dBfs or 0dBfs button at the same time as you press the
CHANNEL SELECT button(s) of the channel or channels you wish to test.
When the test tone is activated the two test tone buttons will start flashing.
To deactivate the test tone, press either one of the two test tone buttons
again.
4.6 SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
4.6.1. Display Brightness
You can dim or brighten the front panel display by holding down BOTH TONE BUTTONS
and pressing the Channel 7 button. This puts the 1788A into “display mode”. Turning the
ADJUST dial will vary the display through 5 levels that are indicated in the Global Status
Readout window as D-0 (dimmest) through D-4.
To exit the display mode, press any other Channel Select button.
4.6.2. Flash Version
To determine the version of firmware that is installed in the 1788A, hold down BOTH
TONE BUTTONS and press the Channel 8 button. The version number will be displayed
in the Global Status Readout window.

one 1788A to another 1788A through the MIDI ports.
4.6.4. Sysex Dump
BOTH TONE BUTTONS plus Channel 5. This is used to send a complete SysEx snapshot
of the 1788A’s controls to a MIDI controller.
NOTE: The procedures used for 3 and 4 above are described in the Remote Control
manual’s Using MIDI section.
