TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
Possible Cause
Not plugged in securely.
Circuit breaker or fuse
open.
Drawer not closed.
Loose connection.
Defective key switch.
Defective motor.
Special Notes
Compactor should be on
separate 15 ampere
circuit (time-delay fuse
of circuit breaker recom-
mended.) Do not use an
extension cord with this
appliance.
See section on motor
replacement for test
procedure.
Condition
I. Will not run. Dead -
no sound. (Turn key
to start, if unit hums,
go to section III.
Correction
Insert plug securely into
outlet.
Check for condition
causing circuit breaker
or fuse to open. Correct
condition, then reset
circuit breaker or replace
fuse.
Push drawer to close.
Repair.
Replace.
Test motor - replace if
necessary.
III. Will not run - hums
when key held in
start position.
Defective upper limit
switch.
Loose connection.
Defective motor.
Plastic bag caught in
trunnion nut.
Replace.
Repair.
Test motor - replace if
necessary.
Remove plastic bag.
See section on motor
replacement for test
procedure.
See section on removing
bags from tunnion nut.
Do not use bags other
than the compactor trash
bag designed and sold
by Broan for use in this
compactor.
II. Runs continuously,
will not shut off.
Sprocket broken.
Chain derailed.
Gearbox broken.
Trunnion nut stripped.
Key switch incorrectly
connected.
Defective upper limit
switch.
Replace.
Reinstall chain.
Replace.
Replace.
Reconnect correctly.
Replace.

ment.
Inspect trunnion nut for
any evidence of dam-
age. If nut displays signs
of thread destruction,
replace nut, clean drive
screw and regrease.
