The Salter Smart Jug offers an all-in-one solution for measuring every type of

ingredient: a scale for dry ingredients, a measuring jug for liquids and it even takes

into account the different measures used around the world so you can concentrate

on the baking, not the conversions!

BATTERIES:

Remove the isolator tab before first use.

To replace battery, insert 1 x CR2032 3V lithium cell. Ensure +/- terminals are the

correct way round.

BASIC WEIGHING OPERATION:

1. Place the jug on its base then press to activate the display and set it to zero.

2. Press UNIT to select the required unit of measurement (e.g. g or lb:oz)

3. Add your ingredient to the jug. The weight will be shown on the display.

4. To return the display to zero between ingredients, press at any time.

TO USE AS A MEASURING JUG FOR LIQUIDS:

1. Place the jug on its base then press to activate the display and set it to zero.

2. Press

UNIT to select the required units for liquid measurement

(e.g. ml, fl.oz, pint)

3. If measuring oil or milk, press

MODE to set the display to show oil or milk as

required. Water is the default setting and should be used for all general water

based liquids including stock, wine, fruit juice etc.

4. Check the display shows zero, then fill the jug using the level markings as a

guide. (It is fine to remove the jug from the base to fill at this point if required).

Note: UK and US fl.oz, pints and cups are shown on the jug – make sure

you use the correct measure for your recipe. See UK/US mode section for

further details.

5. With the jug back on its base, use the display to get a precise measurement.

Add or remove liquid until you have the exact amount required.

USING CUP MEASURES:

For your convenience the display will show cup measures for the most commonly

used baking ingredients. To get an accurate conversion for cup measurements it is

essential to pre- select the type of ingredient you are measuring.

1. With the display switched on, press the

UNIT button to select CUPS on the

display.

2. Then press

MODE to select the ingredient type: Water, Milk, Oil, Flour and

Sugar are the available options.

3. Add ingredient. Display will show cup measures.

N.B. See Technical Information section for further detail.

UK/US MODE:

The factory default setting for this product is UK mode which will display:

Grams and millilitres,

Pounds and ounces,

Imperial (British) pints and fluid ounces,

Metric cups.

This will be suitable for most recipes around the world, however, for your

convenience the product can be switched to US mode which will then display:

Grams and millilitres (as above),

Pounds and ounces (as above),

American (US) pints and fluid ounces,

American (US) cups.

To switch between UK and US modes, press and hold the UK/US button to change between the UK

and US symbol on the left of the display.

Be careful to use the correct setting for your recipe.

If you switch between UK and US measures regularly always double check you have the

correct setting before you start. UK and US fluid ounces and pints are quite different, as

are metric and US cup measures! After first use the most recent settings will be saved.

AUTO-OFF/MANUAL-OFF:

To conserve battery life, the display will automatically switch off if it shows zero for

1 minute or the same weight reading for 3 minutes. To manually switch off the scale,

press and hold .

WARNING INDICATORS:

Lo – replace battery

Err – Weight overload

CLEANING AND CARE:

• Never immerse the base unit in water. Clean only with a damp cloth

• Do not use chemical/abrasive cleaning agents

• The jug is dishwasher safe and can be used in a microwave

Cups conversions are based on the average densities of standard ingredients as listed below.

If different types of flour, sugar etc are measured there may be some slight variation.

GUARANTEE

This product is intended for domestic use only. Salter will repair or replace the product, or

any part of this product, (excluding batteries) free of charge if within 15 years of the date

of purchase, it can be shown to have failed through defective workmanship or materials.

This guarantee covers working parts that affect the function of the scale. It does not

cover cosmetic deterioration caused by fair wear and tear or damage caused by accident

or misuse. Opening or taking apart the scale or its components will void the guarantee.

Claims under guarantee must be supported by proof of purchase and be returned carriage

paid to Salter (or local Salter appointed agent if outside the UK). Care should be taken in

packing the scale so that it is not damaged while in transit. This undertaking is in addition

to a consumer’s statutory rights and does not affect those rights in any way. For UK
