NOTE - Installation procedure is the same for both
carbureted and fuel injected applications. Carbureted
installation shown.
To install high-flow air filter:
1. Remove 3 screws retaining the air cleaner cover.
2. Remove and discard the old filter element.
3. Apply Loctite ® 242 to first three threads of all 3
spacers Screw provided 1" spacers into the air
cleaner cover mounting pylons. Torque spacers
to 90 in./lbs. See Picture 1.
4. Install the new filter element using care not to
tear the filter base on the filter locating tab cast
into the backplate. See Picture 1.
5. Install air cleaner cover using the original air
cleaner cover screws See Picture 2.
NOTE - Filters should be inspected at 50 miles and every
500 miles thereafter for contamination, then changed
at 5000 miles. More often under dusty conditions.
S&S ® Part #17-0045 - Fits S&S "E" &"G" carburetors with teardrop air cleaner and S&S VFI induction systems with
teardrop air cleaner.
The S&S high-flow air filter is one inch taller than the standard production S&S air filter. Both the high-flow air filter
and the standard air filter feature the same high-performance filter media. The one inch increase in height provides
substantial gains in air flow. Testing at S&S Cycle has shown air flow increases of up to 37% over the standard S&S air
filter.
Three one-inch long threaded spacers are provided to position the existing air cleaner cover for the high flow air
filter.
No permanent modifications are necessary. The air cleaner assembly can easily be converted back to use the
standard height air filter element.
