Introduction

S&S

®

manufactures two carburetor throttle-cable guides for big

twin applications (See Picture 1). Cable guide #11-2339 (right) is
designed for throttle cables used on 1981-1989 big twin with
original “butterfly” (non-CV) carburetor. Cable guide #11-2338
(left) is designed for throttle cables used on 1990-up big twin
with original CV carburetor.

NOTE – Space limitations prevent use of cable guide #11-2338 on
Harley-Davidson

models.

S&S no longer installs cable guide on carburetor. Instead, guide
and mounting screw are provided in hardware packet and must
be installed by customer. Correct guide will be included with
complete carb kits according to model year designation. Some
complete carburetor kits and all “carburetor only” kits include
both guides. A listing of the guides supplied in each kit appears
on the reverse side of this bulletin.

NOTE - In all cases it is customer’s responsibility to identify correct
guide and install according to instructions below.

Installation

1.

Remove cable guide and 10-24 x 1/4” mounting screw from
hardware packet. Confirm that guide is correct for
application. See first paragraph in the Introduction section.

2.

Clean threads of screw with lacquer thinner or Loctite

®

primer and apply thin film of Loctite

®

242 (blue) or

equivalent according to manufacturer’s instructions.

Many solvents are potentially hazardous. Read
manufacturer’s cautions before use and use only according to
directions printed on container.

3.

Install cable guide with screw (See Picture 2) and tighten
screw to 14 in-lbs.

NOTE – Cable guide #11-2338 is shown in Picture 2. Installation of
guide #11-2339 is identical. Cable guide will fit only one way.

4.

Finish carburetor and cable installation according to S&S
Carburetor Instructions No. 400.

Failure to install carburetor, cable guide, or cables correctly
can cause loss of control of motorcycle resulting in damage to
vehicle and serious injury to operator and others. Contact S&S
Cycle Technical Services (608-627-8324) or a qualified
mechanic with any questions before operating motorcycle.
