inside covers. Tool 53-0043 (

" x 1.05") is for screws used inside covers of

1999-up engines.

NOTES:

S&S recommends use of torque wrench with rocker cover wrenches whenever possible. However, S&S rocker cover wrenches can
also be used with 5⁄8" box or open-end wrench where space limitations prevent use of torque wrench. Use properly torqued bolt
as reference for tightening bolt inaccessible with torque wrench.

It remains engine builder’s responsibility to apply correct grade of Loctite

®

to screw threads during assembly, and to tighten

hardware according to product manufacturer’s specifications.

" o.d. rocker cover screws provided in S&S rocker cover kit should

be tightened to 10-13 ft-lbs.

5

16

" o.d. rocker support screws should be tightened to 15-18 ft-lbs. S&S has used Loctite

®

242 on rocker

cover and rocker support screws with good results. It is important to clean threads with Loctite

®

primer or lacquer thinner prior to

applying Loctite

®

.

Chrome build-up in plated bolts may prevent insertion of S&S wrench. Wire brush or fine file can be used to remove rust-
preventive finish from wrench and improve fit. If finish is removed, wrench should be coated with thin film of oil before storage
to prevent rust.

Removing excessive material from wrench will cause poor fit, allowing wrench to slip inside screw socket and cause possible
damage to plating or screw.

Failure to apply Loctite to threads or tighten screw to correct torque specifications may result in screw vibrating loose and causing
extensive engine damage not covered under warranty.

Lacquer thinner and many other solvents are potentially hazardous. Read manufacturer’s instructions prior to use and
heed all cautions.
