NOTE: Threads of the driver screw should be coated with a graphite lube to protect threads.
Disconnect the negative battery cable before performing any primary drive or clutch work on your motorcycle to prevent personal injury.
The use of power tools can severely damage S&S inner primary bearing race installation tool.
1. Slide bearing race over transmission mainshaft.
2. Thread the driver screw onto the end of the transmission mainshaft.
NOTE: Driver screw has left handed threads.
3. Slide installation sleeve over the driver screw and transmission mainshaft until it contacts the bearing race.
4. Place the thick washer over the driver screw next to the installation sleeve.
5. Slide the three piece bearing kit, with the radial bearing in the center, over the driver screw until it contacts the thick washer. Refer to exploded
view below for assembly of parts.
6. Thread the large hex nut onto the driver screw.
7. Press on the inner bearing race as follows:
A. For stock Harley-Davidson® bearing race installation: Use a ½” wrench and a 15/16” wrench, tighten the hex nut until the inside edge of the
bearing race is .110” from the main drive gear.
B. For S&S bearing race PN 56-5089 installation: Use a ½” wrench and a 15/16” torque adapter (crows foot wrench), tighten the hex nut to 35 ft-lbs
as shown in Picture 1.
