STOCK IDLER SPROCKETS &
CHAIN TIGHTENERS
USES:
• To obtain proper chain tension when neither shaft is adjustable and to
take up slack developed through normal chain wear.
• To guide chain around obstructions.
• To prevent whipping action in slack strand.
• To afford greater chain wrap around a small sprocket particularly in
vertical drive.
Idler speed should not exceed 2500 RPM and radial load not exceed 50 lbs.
Mount in contact with slack strand of chain.
Mount on outside of chain when chain wrap on small sprocket
is less than 120º.
Have at least three teeth in mesh.
Inside mounted idlers provide quieter operation particularly on short
center drives with moderately high speeds.
Install hardened split lock-washer
adjacent to sprocket on both sides.
Idler sprockets should be located in the
slack span of chain.
