OWNER’S MANUAL FOR

MOISTURE DETECTOR MODEL G-79

----------------------------

The Moisture Detector Model G-79 is an electrical Moisture Meter which gives direct

readings of moisture content of gypsum plaster. It may also be used for other masonry
materials which can be penetrated with contact pins of its electrode.

This instrument utilizes the relationship between electrical conductivity and moisture

content in the product tested.

OPERATION

1. To check battery voltage push the switch down to the "OFF" position and hold; the

battery is OK if the needle moves beyond the "BATT OK" mark.

2. To check the calibration set the range selector switch on "B". Push the ON/OFF

switch to the "ON" position and hold; the meter is in calibration if it reads "5.5"
(±0.5 is acceptable).

3. The meter is turned on, and remains on for 4 minutes whenever the switch is pushed

to the "ON" position and released. The timer is reactivated for four minutes with
each subsequent test with a reading higher than 0.2 on range "C", 1 on range "B"

and 8 on range "A". The meter may be turned off manually by pushing the switch to
the "OFF" position.

4. Connect an electrode to the meter and drive the contact pins into the material

being tested. Read the moisture content on the dial. The position of the Range
Switch indicates which scale should be read. Rotate the Range Switch, if necessary,

so that the meter needle will rest within the two end points of a scale.

If the needle points to the left end of a scale, turn the Range Switch to the next
lower range (from A to B or from B to C). If it points to the right end of a scale,
turn the Range Switch to the next higher range (from C to B or from B to A).

BATTERIES: The meter uses a single 9-volt battery (Eveready #216 or equivalent). The

battery compartment is located at the bottom of the case.
