Physical Data – Field Panels

Material
Ultima

®

is mineral fiber. Optima

®

is fiberglass. Both feature DuraBrite

®

acoustically

transparent membrane.

Surface Finish
DuraBrite with factory-applied acrylic latex paint providing superior light reflectance.

Acoustics
Optima panels provide outstanding acoustical performance and Ultima panels
provide excellent sound absorption.

Sag Resistance
Panels feature HumiGuard

®

Plus, offering superior resistance to sagging in high

humidity conditions.

Mold/Mildew and Antimicrobial Resistance
Ultima ceilings are treated with BioBlock

Plus, which provides a guaranteed

resistance against growth of mold/mildew and gram-positive and gram-negative
odor/stain-causing bacteria. Optima is formulated to inherently resist the growth
of micro-organisms.

Low/No-Added Formaldehyde
Optima items 3161 and 3162 are rated “No-Added Formaldehyde.” All other Optima
field panels are rated “Low Formaldehyde.” Ultima item 1905 is rated “Low
Formaldehyde.” All other Ultima field panels are rated “No-Added Formaldehyde.”

Design Considerations

There are many design configurations possible. TechZone is engineered for 4' and
5' building modules. TechZone on-center spacing can be as narrow as 4' and as
wide as 10' 6". Ceiling panels are available in a broad range of sizes. TechZone is
especially appropriate for large expanses and open areas requiring superior
acoustics and a clean, monolithic look.

Optima panels are not recommended for closed offices and conference rooms
where CAC performance is crucial; however, CAC backing is available upon
request. To prevent sound transmission in closed spaces, choose Ultima field
panels with CAC 35 performance and the same compatible DuraBrite finish.

Metal technical panels may or may not have a negative impact on speech privacy,
depending on the installation layout. For optimal acoustical performance, choose
Optima technical panels.

Installation Considerations

TechZone Ceiling Systems are installed using standard 15/16" or 9/16" grid
components. Optima and Ultima lay-in field panels are not recommended with 9/16"
grid. Interlude is not recommended when using lay-in technical panels. Compatible
lighting, diffusers and fire protection products are available from TechZone partners.
Consult local code professionals about seismic requirements in your region.

Main beams should be installed perpendicular to technical zones. Cross framing,
or Yoke suspension as detailed in CS-3479 (Armstrong Commercial Ceilings and
Walls Solution Guide), may be required where this is not possible. Plenum depth
required for the installation of panels is 3" for 2' x 4' panels and 6" for 4' x 4' panels.
In most cases, installation of HVAC and can lighting will require more plenum depth.
Perimeter treatments and transitions drawings are available in CS-3725 (TechZone
Technical Booklet) or at armstrong.com/techzone.
