SUBWOOFER ADJUSTMENT & USE
SUBWOOFER INITIAL CONTROL SETTINGS
•
Set the LOW PASS FREQUENCY Control to its center position.
• Set the LEVEL Control fully counterclockwise to MIN. You’ll reset this control
after you make other adjustments.
ADJUSTING THE SUBWOOFER CONTROLS
•
Play a program on your system. For the following adjustments, use the Dolby
ProLogic Normal surround mode and select a movie that has a Dolby Surround
soundtrack with a lot of music, or play a music CD. Adjust the receiver’s volume
control for a comfortable sound level from the system speakers.
• Increase the Subwoofer’s LEVEL Control setting clockwise, so that you hear the
deep bass. Adjust the control for a natural, musical balance that has plenty of
deep bass sound when it is actually present in the music.
• Listen carefully to bass voices and, if needed, adjust the LOW PASS
FREQUENCY Control so that they sound natural. Setting the frequency too high
will make deep voices sound excessively “chesty” or resonant and will give the
upper bass in music a “one-note” quality. Setting the frequency too low will
make deep voices sound “thin” and will give music a lack of “warmth”.
• Make fine adjustments until the program has satisfying and natural sound
quality on both bass voices and music.
TROUBLESHOOTING
SUBWOOFER POWER INDICATOR LED DOES NOT LIGHT
•
Check that the Subwoofer’s POWER Switch is in the AUTO ON position.
• If the POWER Switch is in the AUTO ON position, check the AC outlet the
Subwoofer is plugged into to be sure that it is live. You can use a tester or
plug-in a lamp to check it.
• If the AC outlet is live, either the power cord or Subwoofer has a problem.
Unplug the power cord from the AC outlet and check the fuse by unscrewing the
center piece from the holder. If it is blown, replace the fuse only with a fuse of
the same type and rating. If this doesn’t help, take the Subwoofer to your
dealer for service – THERE ARE NO USER SERVICEABLE PARTS INSIDE.
NO SOUND FROM THE FRONT SPEAKERS.
•
Be sure the Receiver and Subwoofer POWER Switches are in the On positions.
• Check the Receiver’s Volume Control Setting - if it is all the way down, there
won’t be any sound.
• Check that the Receiver’s Input Selector is set to an active source of audio
signals and that a Tape Monitor Loop is not engaged.
• Be sure that the Receiver’s Speaker Selector switch is turned on to the
terminals [A or B, 1or 2] that you have your Front speakers connected to. If the
Receiver has a headphone jack, you can use headphones to check the Receiver
for output.
• Check the wires and connections from the Receiver’s Front Speaker Output
terminals to the Subwoofer’s SPEAKER-IN terminals.
• Try removing the Subwoofer from the system, leaving your Front speakers
connected to the Receiver. If there still is no sound, take the Receiver to your
dealer for service.
NO SOUND FROM THE SUBWOOFER
•
First, be sure there is sound from the Front speakers and that the Receiver is
working correctly as outlined above.
• Check the Subwoofer’s LEVEL Control. If it is all the way counter clockwise,
there may be no sound.
• The Subwoofer only reproduces deep bass sound. If the program has no deep
bass, the Subwoofer will not make any sound. Play a program with plenty of
bass, such as jazz or rock music, or an action movie.
• If everything else checks OK, take the Subwoofer to your dealer for
service - THERE ARE NO USER SERVICEABLE PARTS INSIDE.

IMPORTANT SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
ATTENTION:
Please read these instructions thoroughly before attempting to operate your AR
Surround System. Be sure to save this manual for future reference. Also save your bill
of sale, as it may be required for warranty service.
CLEANING - Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for
cleaning.
ATTACHMENTS - Do not use attachments not recommended by AR as they may
cause hazards.
WATER and MOISTURE - Do not use the AR Surround System near water - for
example: near a bath tub, wash bowl, kitchen sink, or laundry tub; in a wet basement,
near a swimming pool, or similar locations.
ACCESSORIES - Do not place the AR Surround System on an unstable cart, stand,
tripod, bracket or table. The product may fall, causing serious injury to a child or
adult,and serious damage to the product. Use only with cart, stand, tripod, bracket or
table recommended by AR or sold with the AR Surround System. Any
mounting of the speakers should follow AR’s instructions and should use a
mounting accessory recommended by AR.
OBJECT AND LIQUID ENTRY - Never push objects of any kind into this product
through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short-out parts that
could result in a fire or electric shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the AR Surround
System.
SERVICING - Do not attempt to service the AR Surround System yourself. Opening or
removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all
servicing to qualified AR service personnel.
DAMAGE REQUIRING SERVICE - Refer servicing to qualified service personnel under
the following conditions:
A. If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen into the product.
B. If the product has been exposed to rain or water.
C. When the product exhibits a distinct change in a performance
REPLACEMENT PARTS - When replacement parts are required, be sure the service
technician has used replacement parts specified by AR or those having the same
characteristics as the original part. Unauthorized substitutions may result in fire,
electric shock, or other hazards.
SAFETY CHECK - Upon completion of any service or repairs to this product, ask the
service technician to perform safety checks to determine that the product is in proper
operating condition.
WALL OR CEILING MOUNTING - The AR Surround Sound System has 1/4 x 20
inserts for mounting to walls and should be mounted to a wall or ceiling as
recommended by AR.
HEAT - The AR Surround System should be situated away from heat sources such as
radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other products (including amplifiers) that
produce heat.

ALTAVOCES CENTRALES Y SATELITALES El conjunto de cinco altavoces de sonido
envolvente (surround) está compuesto por cuatro altavoces satélite de idénticas
características y un altavoz de canal central. Los altavoces satélite forman el grupo de
altavoces de menor tamaño, mientras que el altavoz para canal central tiene un diseño
de orientación horizontal.
SUBWOOFER (SUB-ALTAVOZ PARA GRAVES) El Subwoofer es un tipo de altavoz
que proporciona un sonido de salida de graves profundo y poderoso, lo que permite
recrear la experiencia sonora natural del sonido en vivo. Sírvase seguir con atención
las instrucciones de este manual a los fines de obtener el mejor rendimiento del
sistema de sonido.
CÓMO UBICAR LOS COMPONENTES DEL SISTEMA DE SONIDO Ubicar el
altavoz de Canal Central sobre o debajo del equipo de televisión o monitor. Uno de los
altavoces satélite debe estar ubicado sobre alguno de los lados del equipo de
televisión.
Para obtener un funcionamiento correcto, el Subwoofer (sub-altavoz para graves)debe
ubicarse en el suelo, sobre un rincón. De hecho, tanto el piso como el rincón forman
parte integral del diseño del Subwoofer.
Ubicar el Subwoofer en el rincón más cercano a los componentes electrónicos del
sistema, a los fines de mantener corto el tendido de cables.
CÓMO CONECTAR LOS ALTAVOCES PARA EFECTO DE SONIDO ENVOLVENTE
(SURROUND) El aparato receptor tendrá claramente marcadas las terminales para
conectar los Altavoces Satélite y el altavoz de Canal Central. El tipo de conexión más
común para terminales es el accionado por resorte. Presionar la pestaña hacia abajo e
introducir el extremo pelado del cable en la abertura.
IMPORTANTE: Conectar siempre la terminal de color rojo (+) del aparato receptor en la
terminal de color rojo (+) del altavoz correspondiente, es decir, Frente Izquierda.
Conectar la terminal de color negro (-) correspondiente del aparato receptor a la
terminal de color negro (-) del mismo altavoz. Continuar con este procedimiento hasta
que todos los altavoces hayan sido conectados de esta manera.
CONTROLES Y CONEXIONES DEL SUB-ALTAVOZ PARA GRAVES
(SUBWOOFER)
CABLE DE ALIMENTACIÓN Conectar el cable de alimentación en una toma de
corriente alterna (AC) de pared u otro tomacorriente para AC que tenga capacidad para
suministrar al menos 400 Watts.
INTERRUPTOR DE ALIMENTACIÓN Corta totalmente el suministro de corriente AC
o coloca al sub-altavoz para graves (Subwoofer) en el modo operativo AUTO ON. En
este modo de operación, el subwoofer se encuentra en modo standby (modalidad de
espera) hasta que detecte una entrada de señal de audio, en ese caso el altavoz se
activa en forma automática. A los pocos minutos de haber cesado la entrada se
señales de audio, el Subwoofer vuelve a la modalidad de espera.
LED INDICADOR DE ENERGÍA Este LED se encuentra apagado cuando el
interruptor de energía AC está en posición OFF. Emite una luz roja cuando el
sub-altavoz para graves está en modo de espera y una luz verde cuando el sub-altavoz
se encuentra encendido.
FUSIBLE 250V 2A Este fusible protege el equipo contra fallas externas e internas. En
el caso que el interruptor de energía esté en posición ON y el LED indicador de energía
se encuentre apagado, desconectar el cable de alimentación del tomacorriente de cor-
riente alterna y controlar el estado del fusible, desenroscando la parte central del
portafusibles. IMPORTANTE: en el caso que el fusible esté quemado, deberá ser reem-
plazado solamente con un fusible del mismo tipo y gama de corriente.
TERMINALES SPEAKER-IN IZQ., DER - Ver Opción
de Conexión 1. Estas terminales deben utilizarse
cuando se efectúen conexiones utilizando cable para
altavoces. Si se utiliza esta opción, no utilizar la
Opción 2.
ENTRADA DE LÍNEA (LINE IN) - - Ver Opción de
Conexión 2. Este conector se utiliza en el caso que se
desee efectuar una conexión con cable de audio
cable. Si se utiliza esta opción, no utilizar la Opción 1.
CONTROL DE FRECUENCIA DE PASO BAJO Sirve
para ajustar el límite mayor de frecuencia para las
señales de audio que lleguen al amplificador del
Subwoofer. Este control sirve para que el usuario
ajuste el balance de tono del sistema.
CONTROL DE NIVEL Este control sirve para bal-
ancear el nivel de sonoridad del Subwoofer en
relación con los altavoces frontales, y para compen-
sar los efectos del rebote del sonido en la salida del
Subwoofer.
SELECTOR DE FASE El selector de fase controla la fase de la salida del Subwoofer
en relación con los altavoces frontales. Escuchar atentamente la calidad del sonido
mientras se reproduce un CD con bajo nivel de graves. Seleccionar la posición del
selector que produzca el sonido de graves más pleno y profundo sin producir vibración
o distorsión de sonido. Después de ajustar el Selector de Fase, puede que sea
necesario ajustar nuevamente los controles de Nivel y de Frecuencia de Paso Bajo.
CÓMO CONECTAR EL SUB-ALTAVOZ PARA GRAVES (SUBWOOFER)
IMPORTANTE: Cuando se realicen las conexiones, deberá asegurarse que los
interruptores de energía de todos los componentes, incluyendo el Subwoofer, estén
apagados, es decir, en posición OFF.
CABLES DE AUDIO Si se conecta el Subwoofer a un sistema de audio compuesto
por módulos separados (preamplificador & amplificador de potencia), se necesitarán
cables de audio con longitud suficiente como para que alcancen el Subwoofer desde
el preamplificador y el amplificador de potencia.
CABLE DE ALTAVOCES El cable de altavoz típico esta compuesto por un par
de conductores unidos en una sola pieza, recubiertos con material aislante. Se
recomienda que se utilice cable de altavoces de 16 de sección para conectar el
aparato receptor a los altavoces frontales. Para conectar más fácilmente en paralelo
el Subwoofer con los altavoces frontales, el cable de altavoz puede ser más corto (de
una sección mayor), ya que el Subwoofer no emitirá una gran cantidad de energía a
través de estos cables.
POLARIDAD Todos los altavoces en un sistema deben estar conectados con la misma
polaridad. El cable de altavoz está marcado a los fines de tener identificada la
polaridad, para conectar pares identificando qué cable es cuál dentro del par. La
polaridad se muestra mediante una línea de color o una estría moldeada en la funda
aislante, o por los colores de los cables – uno color cobre, el otro plateado.
Pelar la funda aislante del cable del altavoz para que queden al desnudo los
conductores antes de conectar las terminales de los altavoces, el aparato receptor o el
Subwoofer.
IMPORTANTE: Siempre conectar la terminal de color rojo + del aparato receptor a la
terminal de color rojo + del Subwoofer, y la terminal de color negro - del aparato
receptor a la terminal de color negro - del Subwoofer. Esto también se aplica para la
conexión de las salidas del aparato receptor a los altavoces frontales: rojo + a rojo +,
y negro- a negro-.
IMPORTANTE: UTILIZAR LA OPCIÓN DE CONEXIÓN 1 O LA OPCIÓN DE
CONEXIÓN 2, NO AMBAS.
OPCIÓN DE CONEXIÓN 1 – CONEXIÓN CON CABLE DE ALTAVOZ
Conecte los alambres del altavoz de las salidas en el receptor delantero izquierdo y
derecho a los terminales IN de subwoofer izquierdo y el derecho, y los altavoces
delanteros izquierdos y el derechos
