PAGE E - 8
This seal is not designed for operation at
temperatures above 160
_F (71_C). Do not
use at higher operating temperatures.
Lay the seal plate (9) on a flat surface with the im
peller side facing up.
Use even pressure to press the stationary seat and
O‐ring into the seal plate until fully seated in the
seal plate bore.
Carefully slide the assembled seal plate and sta
tionary seat over the shaft. Use caution not to nick
or damage the stationary seat. Temporarily secure
the seal plate to the pedestal (21) using two cap
screws and nuts (1/2 UNC X 1-1/2 inch long, not
supplied).
Subassemble the rotating element into the retainer
and bellows. Lubricate the I.D. of the bellows with
water or light oil, and slide this subassembly over
the shaft until the polished faces contact.
Install the seal spring and spring centering washer
(13).
Impeller and Vane Plate Installation
Inspect the impeller and replace it if cracked or
badly worn.
For maximum pump efficiency, the impeller should
be centered within the vane plate (26).
To verify the impeller positioning, measure the
vane plate and impeller as shown in Figure 3. Use
these measurements to calculate the required im
peller location (dimension E). Add or remove im
peller adjusting shims (14) until dimension E is ob
tained.

Figure 3. Centering Impeller Within Vane Plate
Install the correct thickness of impeller shims and
install the impeller key (8) in the shaft keyway.
NOTE
The impeller key (8) is designed to extend beyond
the end of the shaft and lock into the hole in the im
peller washer (27).
Align the impeller keyway with the key and slide the
impeller onto the shaft until fully seated.
NOTE
After the impeller has been properly positioned,
check for free rotation. Correct any scraping bind
ing before further reassembly.
When the impeller is properly positioned, install the
impeller washer (27) over the end of the shaf key
and secure with the hardware (28 and 29).
Clean all of the old adhesive sealant from the face
of the vane plate (26). Apply a thin coating of “3M
Adhesive Sealant No. 847” or equivalent com
