Figure 3. Seal Assembly

This seal is not designed for operation at
temperatures above 160

_F (71_C). Do not

use at higher operating temperatures.

Place the seal plate on a flat surface with the impel
ler side down. Apply a light coat of oil to the oil seal
(37) and press it into the seal plate (42) with the lips
positioned as shown in Figure E-1.

Slide the seal plate over the shaft until fully seated
against the pedestal (19). Be careful not to dam
age the oil seal lip on the shaft threads.

Press the stationary subassembly (consisting of
the stationary seat, O‐rings and stationary ele
ment) into the seal plate until the stationary seat
bottoms against the seal plate bore. A push tube
cut from a length of plastic pipe would aid this in
stallation. The I.D. of the pipe should be approxi
mately the same diameter as the I.D. of the seal
spring.

Align the threaded seal lubricant hole with the ped
estal opening and temporarily secure the seal p
late using two capscrews and nuts (1/2 UNC X
1‐1/2 inch long, not supplied).

Slide the rotating subassembly (consisting of the
rotating element, retainer and bellows) onto the lu
bricated shaft sleeve until the rotating element is
just flush with the chamfered end of the sleeve.
Slide the sleeve and rotating subassembly onto
the shaft until the seal elements contact. Continue
to push the sleeve through the seal until it bottoms
against the shaft shoulder. Be careful not to dam
age or roll the lips of the oil seal (32). Install the seal
spring and the spring centering washer.

Install the shaft key (27) and secure the pedestal to
the power source with the previously removed
hardware. Slide the slinger ring (36) onto the shaft.

Reinstall the bottle oiler and piping (12, 13 and 14),
and lubricate the seal assembly as indicated in
LUBRICATION, after the impeller has been in
stalled.
