Setting up
Before using the L83 megaphone, it is necessary to load 8 x “C” cell batteries into the rear compartment. Unclip the top
catch to open the compartment and remove the 2 plastic inserts. Load the cells inside the inserts into the battery
compartment, observing the correct “+/-“ polarity as indicated on the inside wall of the compartment (incorrect
installation can result in damage). Alternatively, the L83 can be powered from external 12Vdc battery (car battery etc.)
by connecting to the 2.1mm D.C. jack on the rear right-hand side of the housing (again, observing the correct polarity)
Operation
The L83 may be slung over the shoulder for convenience, with the speaker flare facing the audience.
Ensure that the Mic. volume slider is not moved fully down. Holding the microphone close to the mouth and not in front
of the speaker flare, press the “Push-to-talk” button and speak. Adjust the Mic. volume control as necessary to achieve
the required volume level. Release the “Push-to-talk” button when not speaking into the microphone. The microphone
can be clipped onto the rear of the battery compartment or onto the shoulder strap when not in use.
Sliding the siren switch to the “on” position sounds a continuous alert through the speaker, sliding to “off” stops this.
