Remove one of the front oil pan bolts and use it to

mount the sensor assembly. Position the sensor so

that there is approximately

the end of the sensor and the magnets.

TO INSTALL GAUGES IN PANEL/CONSOLE: Remove
the U-clamp from the studs, then install the gauge through
the panel using the U-clamp and two hex nuts provided
with the gauge.

WIRING INSTALLATION
All gauge wiring and tubing should be routed away from
heat sources such as hot exhaust manifolds or piping, and
away from sharp edges. Avoid sharp bends or kinks
especially in the small tubing for boost gauges. Secure the
wiring or tubing to other wiring inside the engine
compartment with cable ties provided. When passing
through the firewall, either make a hole in a factory
grommet or drill a hole and use a new grommet. If a hole
needs to be drilled, drill a

" hole and deburr it on both

sides, so that the wiring or tubing does not get cut as it
passes through the hole. For added protection, wrap the
wiring/tubing with several layers of electrical tape in the
area where it passes through the hole. When drilling,
check the backside to make sure that there are no
components blocking the back side of the hole that would
be damaged by drilling.

On the Dodge diesel, a wiring harness kit is used to
connect to the factory wiring harness. In order to install the
gauge in this vehicle, find the 4-pin wiring connector taped
to a wiring harness near the fuse block under the
dashboard of the vehicle. Connect the wires from the
tachometer wiring harness to the pins in 4-pin connector as
follows:

Connector

Harness

Black

Black

Orange

Green

Black (listed as red in service Manual)

Red

Gray/Lt. Blue

White

The yellow wire on the wiring harness is unused with the 2"
tachometer, and may be taped out of the way. Note that
there are two black wires. the black wire at the edge of the
connector is the ground wire and the other that is between
the orange and gray wires is +12V that is hot with the key
turned on. If unsure as to which wire is which, check it with
a voltmeter or test light as damage to the tachometer or
vehicle wiring could result from reversing these connection.

At the gauge connect the wires from the harness to the gauge
with crimp connectors, matching the colors of the wires.

In vehicles which require the magnetic sensor to be
installed on the crankshaft damper, the red wire from the
gauge is to be connected to a key-on power source within
the vehicle. Make sure, with a test light or volt meter, that
the source only has +12V when the key is on. Run two #20
AWG wires from the magnetic pickup to the gauge, and
connect one of the wires to each of the black and white
wires coming from the gauge. The black wire from the
gauge also needs to be connected to vehicle ground.

GAUGE LIGHTING:
Snap the light sockets into the back of each gauge if not
already installed. Connect one wire from each light to a
good ground location under the dash, such as metal dash
support brackets where other wires may already be
grounded. Connect the remaining light wires together, then
to an 18-ga. or larger wire connected to the headlight
circuit, or to the factory instrument light circuit.
