Power supply and start-up
Observe mains voltage: the voltage
and frequency of the power source
must correspond to the specifi cation
on the machine rating plate.
In North America, only Festool machines
with the voltage specifi cations 120 V/60 Hz
may be used.
On/Off switch
Switch (1.5) serves as an On/Off switch
(press = ON, release = OFF). It may be
latched with the locking knob on the side
(1.4) for continuous operation. Pressing the
switch again releases the lock.
4 Machine
settings
Always remove the power supply
plug from the socket before carrying
out any work on the machine.
4.1 Electronics
The tool has full-wave electronics
with the following features:
Smooth start-up
The smooth start-up ensures the router
starts up jolt-free.
Speed adjustment
You can regulate the speed steplessly
between 900 and 2500 min
-1
using the
adjusting wheel (1.2). This enables you to
optimise the cutting speed to suit the ma-
terial (see table).

Constant speed
The pre-selected speed remains constant
whether the machine is in operation or in
neutral position.
Temperature control
To prevent overheating, the safety electro-
nics switches the machine off when it rea-
ches a critical motor temperature. Let the
machine cool down for approx. 3-5 minutes
before using it again. The machine requires
less time to cool down if it is running, i.e.
in neutral position.
Current limiting
Current limiting prevents permissibly high
current consumption under extreme over-
load. This can lead to a decrease in the mo-
tor speed. The motor immediately restarts
after the load is removed.
4.2
Securing polishing attach-
ments
The polishing pads (1.8) are equipped with
an M 14 thread, and are screwed directly
into the spindle (1.9).
You can prevent the spindle from turning
using a size 19 spanner (1.7, not included
in scope of delivery).
Due to the PoliStick system, the polishing
materials (felt, sponge, sheepskin) are
simply pressed onto the polishing pad (1.8)
and held in place by the adhesive coating
on the polishing pad.
4.3 Auxiliary
handle
The auxiliary handle (1.6, accessories) can
be screwed onto either the right or left of
the gear head.
5
Working with the machine
For safe guidance, hold the machine with
both hands on the motor housing (1.3) and
on the gear head (1.1) and/or the auxiliary
handle (1.6).
Never overload the tool by using too much
pressure! The best sanding results are
achieved when applying moderate pressu-
re. The sanding performance and quality
depend mainly on the choice of the right
sanding material.
