2 – Upgrade procedures

Format the card
Before doing the upgrade, you should format the
card. We suggest this whether or not you have
already used your Pocketstudio 5 with an earlier ver-
sion of the software.
NOTE
If you have not backed up your data, go directly to step
2.
1 For Windows Me/2000/XP systems, left-click
the taskbar and stop the Pocketstudio 5 (
USB
Mass Storage Device ).
When the message appears that it is safe to
disconnect the device, turn off the Pocketstu-
dio 5 (there is no need to disconnect the USB
cable).
or (Windows 98SE), right-click the My
Computer icon, choose the Properties
option and then choose the Device Manager ..
Use the boxed + icon to expand the Disk
Drives list, and select (click) the Removable
Device . Now click Remove . When the
Removable Device icon disappears, you can
turn off the Pocketstudio 5 (there is no need
to disconnect the USB cable).
or (for Macintosh systems), eject the Pocket-
studio 5 (Command-E) or drag it to the
Trash. When the icon disappears, turn off the
Pocketstudio 5 (there is no need to disconnect
the USB cable).
2 Turn on the Pocketstudio 5 once more. Press
the
MENU key, make sure the cursor is by the
CARD menu and press ENTER :
3 Use the cursor pad to scroll down so that the
cursor is by
CARD FORMAT .
4 Press ENTER . You are asked if you are sure
you want to format the card:
5 Press ENTER. Once again, you are asked if
you are really sure.
6 Press ENTER . The format takes place (the
display shows Formatting... ) and
then you are asked if you want to create a
song.
7 Press ENTER to create a new song. The dis-
play returns to the CARD menu
8 Turn off the Pocketstudio 5.
Loading the upgrade
Now you must load the new operating system and the
upgrade program onto the Pocketstudio 5.
1 With the USB cable connecting the Pocket-
studio 5 and your computer, press and hold
the
ENTER key and turn on the Pocketstudio
5. The display shows USB MODE , as
described above.
2 Copy the UTILITY.LDR file and the UTILITY
folder (containing two files) to the Pocketstu-
dio 5 “drive”.
3 To stop the Pocketstudio 5 “drive”, follow the
appropriate instructions in “Format the
card” above.
4 Turn off the Pocketstudio 5.
