Provide you with a new, or at our option, a
refurbished unit. The exchange unit is
under warranty for the remainder of the
original product’s warranty period.

Proof of purchase in the form of a bill of
sale or receipted invoice which is evidence
that the product is within the warranty
period must be presented to obtain
warranty service. For rental firms, proof of
first rental is also required.

How to make a warranty claim:

Properly pack your unit. Include any cables,
etc., which were originally provided with
the product. We recommend using the
original carton and packing materials.

Include evidence of purchase date such as
the bill of sale. Also print your name and
address and a description of the defect.

Product Registration:

Please complete and mail the Product
registration Card packed with your unit. It
will make it easier to contact you should it
ever be necessary. The return of the card is
not required for warranty coverage.

filled with liquids, such as vases, should
be placed on the apparatus.

No naked flame sources, such as lighted
candles, should be placed on the
apparatus.

Attention should be drawn to the
environmental aspects of battery

Safety precautions

Never open the cabinet under any
circumstances. Any repairs or internal
adjustments should be made only by a
trained technician.

Never operate this product with the
cabinet removed.

Do not use your System immediately
after transporting it from a cold place to
a warm place, as condensation may cause
the system to malfunction.

Keep your unit away from humid areas
and abnormally hot places.

Do not touch the player with wet hands.
If any liquid enters the player cabinet,
take the player to a trained technician
for inspection.

This compact disc player uses a laser to
read the music on the disc. The laser
mechanism corresponds to the cartridge
and stylus of a record player. Although
this product incorporates a laser pick-up
lens, it is completely safe when operated
according to directions.

Discs rotate at high speed inside the
player. Do not use damaged, warped, or
cracked discs.

Do not touch the pick-up lens which is
located inside the disc compartment. To
keep dust from collecting on the pick-up
lens, do not leave the compartment door
open for an extended period of time. If
the lens becomes dirty, clean it with a
soft brush, or use an air blower brush
designed for camera lenses.

Headset safety

Have a Blast-Just Not in your
eardrums!
Make sure you turn down the
volume on the unit before you
put on headphones. Increase the volume
to the desired level only after headphone
are in place.

Do not play your headset at high volume.
Hearing experts warn against extended
high-volume play.

If you experience ringing in your ears,
reduce volume or discontinue use.

You should use with extreme caution or
temporarily discontinue use in potentially
hazardous situations.

Even if your headset is an open-air
designed to let you to hear outside
sounds, do not turn up the volume so
high that you are unable to hear what is
around you.

Handling CDs

Do not touch the signal surfaces. Hold CDs
by the edges, or by one edge and the
hole.

Do not affix labels or adhesive tapes to
the label surfaces. Do not scratch or
damage the label.

CDs rotate at high speeds inside the
player. Do not use damaged (cracked or
warped) CDs

Make sure CDs are stored in their original
case after use. Keep them away from
damp, humid or abnormally heated
places.

Important battery
information

Remove the batteries to avoid leakage if
you do not use your system for more
than one month.

Discard leaky batteries immediately as
leaking batteries may cause skin burns or
other personal injuries. Dispose of
batteries in the proper manner,
according to provincial and local
regulations.

Any battery may leak electrolyte under
the following circumstances:
- if mixed with a different battery type,
- if inserted incorrectly,
- if all batteries are not replaced at the
same time,
- if disposed of in fire, or
- if an attempt is made to charge a
battery not intended to be recharged

Be sure to remove batteries when storing
the set for more than 30 days. Leaky
batteries can badly damage the system.
Be sure to dispose of leaky, weak or dead
batteries properly according to federal,
state, and local regulations. To prevent
injury or damage, do not reverse
batteries and do not mix battery type.

AC power

Plug the power supply cord into the AC
power jack on the back of the unit, and into
an AC power supply outlet that accepts the
plug supplied with your unit.

Battery power

You can insert 6 D-sized alkaline batteries
(not supplied) and you can take your stereo
just about anywhere. 3 “AA” batteries (not
supplied) are needed to keep radio station
memory.

Open the battery compartment door on
the bottom of the unit by pressing down
on the tab and pulling out the cover.

Before inserting the batteries, observe
the polarities (that is, + and -) of the
battery, then relate the polarities to the
engraved diagram located on the battery
compartment door. Insert batteries in the
battery compartment.

Note that the AC line cord must be
unplugged from the jack on the back of
the unit to operate on batteries.

System doesn’t turn on

Unplug the unit for a moment, and then
plug it back in.

Check the outlet by plugging in another
device

No sound

Adjust volume setting.

Make sure you’ve selected the correct

Do not expose product to rain and do not use
near water; such as, sink, wet basement,
swimming pools, etc.

Always leave sufficient space around the product
for ventilation. Do not place product in or on a
bed, rug, bookcase or cabinet that may prevent
air flow through vent openings.

Do not expose product to extreme temperatures
such as found near a hot radiator or stove, or in a
car parked in the Summer sun.

Connect power cord only to AC power source as
marked on the product.

Some products employ a polarized AC line plug
(one blade is wider). This is a safety feature. The
plug will go in the power outlet only one way. If
the plug doesn’t go into the outlet completely,
turn the plug over and put it in the other way. If
it still doesn’t fit, contact a qualified electrician to
change the outlet. Do not defeat the safety
purpose of the polarized plug.

Route power cord to prevent it from being
pinched, or walked on, or melted by a hot stove
or radiator.

To clean cabinet, unplug AC power cord, then use
a soft cloth dampened only with water.

Do not place lighted candles, cigarettes, cigars,
etc. on the product.

Unplug AC power cord from outlet during a
lightning storm or when product is left unused
for a long period of time to prevent damage due
to lightning or power line surges.

Care should be taken so that objects do not fall
and liquids do not spill into the product.

Never add accessories that the product has not
been designed to accommodate.

Use only the manufacturer’s approved mounting
instructions and hardware when installing
product.

Do not attempt to disassemble the cabinet. This
product does not contain customer serviceable
components.

Do not handle the unit or power cord when your
hands are wet or damp.

Carts and Stands — The appliance
should be used only with a cart or
stand that is recommended by the
manufacturer.

An appliance and cart combination
should be moved with care. Quick stops, excessive
force, and uneven surfaces may cause the
appliance and cart combination to overturn.

Damage Requiring Service–This product should
be serviced by qualified service personnel when:
A. The power supply cord or the plug has been

damaged; or
B. Objects have fallen, or liquid has been spilled
into the product; or
C. The product has been exposed to rain; or
D. The product does not appear to operate
normally or exhibits a marked change in
performance; or
E. The product has been dropped, or the cabinet
damaged.

When service or repairs are completed, ask the
service technician to perform the safety check
described in the service manual and to confirm
that replacement parts have the same safety
characteristics as the original parts.

Overloading - Do not overload the wall outlets,
extension cords or integral convenience
receptacles as this can result in a risk of fire or
electric shock.

An outdoor antenna should be locate away from
power lines.

SYSTEM
, call the CATV system installer’s
attention to Article 820-40 of the NEC that
provides guidelines for proper grounding and, in
particular, specifies that the cable ground shall be
connected to the grounding system of the
building, as close to the point of cable entry as
practical.

EQ To select among the sound effects (Flat /
Rock / Jazz / Pop / Classic).
DBBS To turn the digital bass boost system
on and off.
VOLUME + / - To increase or decrease the
output volume.
To connect the headphone.
PLAY MODE In the radio mode, to access
the preset radio channels. In CD mode, to
select among the playback modes (repeat
all / repeat 1 / random).
SET In the radio mode, to select the radio
preset channels and to set preset stations
automatically. In the CD mode, to enter the
program mode.
TRACK / TUNE

In the radio mode,

to tune up or down the radio frequency
and select the TV or weather channels. In
the CD mode, to search/skip the CD track
backward or forward.

STOP To stop the CD playback.

STANDBY/ON / RADIO / TAPE / CD once to
select the radio mode.

Setting preset stations
manually

1. In the radio mode, press BAND to select

the radio band.

2. Press TRACK/TUNE

or

to select

the station to save as a preset station.

3. Press SET. Program icon flashes.
4. Press PLAYMODE repeatedly to assign

the preset station number.

5. Press SET to confirm. Program icon stops

flashing

6. Repeat steps 2 to 5 to set additional

preset stations. There are 10 preset
locations for FM band and 10 preset
location for AM band on this unit.

Extend or reposition the
antenna for better FM/TV/Wx
reception. Rotate the unit for

better AM reception.

Press and hold TRACK/TUNE

or

to automatically

tune to the next available
station.

Playing tape

1. When the unit is off, press

ON STANDBY / RADIO / TAPE / CD twice
until TAPE mode is selected. The tape
indicator “tAPE” lights on the display.

2. Press STOP/EJECT to open the tape deck

door.

3. Insert a tape into the door and push the

door closed.

4. Press REW or FWD to wind the tape to

the desired starting position. Press STOP/
EJECT
to stop winding.

5. Press PLAY to start playback. Press

PAUSE to pause playback (press again to
release the button to resume playback).

6. Press STOP/EJECT to stop the playback.

Recording to tape

From radio

1. Insert a tape into the deck.
2. Press ON/STANDBY / RADIO / TAPE / CD

until the RADIO mode is selected.

3. Press BAND to access the desired radio

band.

4. Press TRACK/TUNE

or

to tune to

the station to be recorded.

5. Press REC and PLAY together to begin

recording.

6. Press PAUSE or STOP to pause or stop

the recording respectively.

From CD
1. Insert a tape into the deck.
2. Press ON/STANDBY / RADIO / TAPE / CD

until the CD mode is selected.

3. Insert the disc to be recorded.
4. Select the track or program to be

recorded.

5. Press REC and PLAY together to begin

recording.

6. Play the track or program to be recorded.
7. Press PAUSE or STOP to pause or stop

recording respectively.

Be sure to slide the cassette into
the tape slot on the door. Do
not place the tape directly onto

the tape mechanism.

For better recording quality,
use normal bias tape (Type I)
only.

This unit is compatible with
audio CD-R/RW discs.

CD-R / RW

• Do not affix any type of
labels to either side (recordable
or labeled side) of a CD-R/RW

disc as this may result in the unit
malfunctioning.

To avoid damages to the CD-R/RW
disc, do not open the disc
compartment door while the disc is
being read.

Playback capability for CD-RW discs
may vary due to variations in the
quality of the CD-RW disc and the
recorder used to create the disc.

Selecting CD mode

When the unit is turned off, press ON/
STANDBY / RADIO / TAPE / CD
three times
to enter the CD mode.

Loading disc

1. Press the CD OPEN button to slide disc

tray out.

2. Place a disc on the disc tray with the

label side facing up.

3. Push the disc tray back in.

The total number of tracks on the disc can
be read from the display.

Playback

1. In stop mode, press PLAY/PAUSE to

begin the CD playback.

2. During the CD playback, press PLAY/

PAUSE to pause playback. Press again to
resume.

Press TRACK/TUNE

or

to skip to

the previous or next track respectively.

Press and hold TRACK/TUNE

or

to search quickly the current track
backward or forward respectively.

3. Press STOP to stop the playback.

CD remain

Press REMAIN to select between showing
the disc remaining playback time and track
elapsed playback time.

Programming

1. In stop mode, press SET to enter the

program setting mode.
The program location shows briefly and
then the track number and program icon
flash on the display.

2. Press TRACK/TUNE

or

to select

the track you want to program.

3. Press SET again to confirm your selection

and access the next program location.

4. Repeat steps 2 to 3 to program to a

maximum of 20 tracks.

5. Press PLAY/PAUSE in program mode to

start program playback (PROGRAM
indicator lights on the display).
Press STOP to return to normal playback
mode.

Displaying the program list
Press SET repeatedly to show program list.

Exit program mode
Program mode will be deactivated once you
press STOP to end program playback.

Clearing program list
Your program will be erased once you open
the disc compartment door or change to
another source mode (e.g. radio).

If you are in the normal playback mode but
want to play the saved program, press
STOP, then SET and then PLAY/PAUSE.

Play mode

Press PLAYMODE to select among the
playback modes (repeat all / repeat current
track / random). Selection made is indicated
by icons on the display.

ESD remark:

In case of misfunction due to electrostatic
discharge just reset the product (disconnect
and reconnect of the power source may be
required) to resume normal operation.

CD lens care

When your CD lens gets dirty it can also
cause the system to output poor sound
quality. To clean the lens you will need to
purchase a CD lens cleaner which can
maintain the output sound quality of
your system. For instructions on cleaning
the CD lens, refer to the ones
accompanying the lens cleaner.

Cleaning the exterior

Disconnect the system from AC power
before cleaning the exterior of the unit
with a soft dust cloth

Clean the exterior with a soft clean cloth
or slightly moistened chamois leather. DO
NOT use solvents as it may cause damage
to the unit.

Cassettes

To protect your
recordings from
accidental erasure on
one or both sides of your
cassette, snap out the tab at
the top of the cassette. If you decide
later to record on the tape, seal the hole

Quit Slacking - A little bit of slack in your
tapes can cause scratches on the tape, or
worse yet, the tape could
break. If you notice some
slack in the tape, use a
pencil to tighten it up
before you insert it.

Setting preset stations
automatically

Press and hold SET to set presets
automatically. Once a station is found the
search stops briefly to allow you to listen to
the station.

preset memory, wait a few seconds and
the search will resume.

Using presets

1. Press BAND to select between bands.
2. Press PLAYMODE to enter the preset

mode and PRESET 1 shows on the display.

3. Press PLAYMODE repeatedly to access

the desired preset stations.

TV band

CH 2-13 are available for TV Band.

from U.S. Government Weather Stations on
frequencies from 162.400MHz to

hours a day, are taped messages that are
repeated every 4 to 6 minutes and revised
and updated as needed to match the
changing weather conditions. For additional
information, check your location office of
the National Weather Service (Department
of Commerce).

Important: The listening range of NOAA
weather stations varies from 10 miles up to a
maximum of 40 miles from the station’s
transmitter. In some areas of the United
States, weather transmissions cannot be
monitored. The effective range of this radio
will have side variations due to the height of
the local transmitting antenna, atmospheric
conditions, and the terrain between the
transmitter and your radio’s location.
