Overload Protection
If overloaded or in any way misused the amplifier will immediately protect itself, courtesy of an
intelligent microprocessor-controlled protection system which constantly monitors
temperature, output current and other key parameters. The protection mode is not – as in
conventional amps – done with relays. Instead the output stage simply stops switching, a very
fast-acting and safe way to protect against overload.
Normally, output current is monitored/measured over a small resistor in the signal path.
However, adding a resistor in the signal path increases output impedance and affects sound
quality which is why we do things slightly differently in the TDAI-2200. We simply measure the
current drawn by the output stage for each single switch cycle. This means sound quality is
unaffected and, just as importantly, that the protection circuit can react extremely quickly.
Cabinet
The TDAI-2200 is packed in a precision-machined, compact enclosure adorned with a unique,
eye-catching and extremely user-friendly volume wheel. The densely-packed design of this
high-power amplifier can only be achieved because of the low losses in the entire design.
So the rugged aluminium enclosure has not just been used for its classy looks. Actually, the
‘pro’ design was chosen primarily to ‘isolate’ the TDAI-2200 from electrically ‘noisy’
environments. So, small details like the anodization being removed at each cabinet ‘joint’ are
not mere coincidence. They have been done to make sure that they are electrically conductive
to achieve maximum immunity to induced noise.
