Acomponentsystemgivesyoutheabilitytoplace
thewoofer,midrangeandtweeterseparatelyinyour
vehicleinterior.Thiscanbegoodorbad,depending
onhowit’sdone.
TheC5-653systemhasbeenoptimizedfor
installationsinwhichthemidrangeandtweeter
driversforeachchannelaremountedasclose
togetheraspossibleonthesamemountingplane
(suchasakickpanelinstallationasillustratedin
DiagramB).Thistypeofmountingwillresultin
thebesttonalbalanceandmostcoherentimaging.
Thecentertocenterseparationofthemidrangeand
tweetershouldbebetween3.5inches(89mm)and
4inches(102mm)Anyseparationgreaterthan4
inches(102mm)fromcentertocenterofeachdriver
islikelytoresultindegradedsoundquality.Wedo
notrecommendmountingthetweetersinadifferent
locationthanthemidrangedriver(DiagramA).
Avoidplacingtweeterswheretheywillbeblocked
byobjectsintheinteriorofthecar(includingseated
occupants).Whenselectingamountinglocation,
lookatbothsidesofthecartomakesurethatthis
locationisclearonbothsides.
The6.5inch(165mm)wooferswillusuallybe
placedintofactoryspeakerlocationsandcanbe
separatedfromthemidrangeandtweeterbyas
muchas18inches(46cm),withoutdegradingsound
quality.Forproperlow-frequencyperformance,
thewoofersneedafairlylargeairspacebehind
them(liketheairinsideofadoor).Enclosingthe
C5-650cwwoofersinspacessmallerthan1cu.ft
(28liters)isnotrecommendedifoptimumlow-
frequencyandmidbassperformanceisdesired.
Wedonotrecommendmountingthewooferand
midrangeintothesameenclosedenvironment,as
thiswillcauseenergyfromthewoofertomodulate
themidrangedriver,resultingindistortionand
colorationofthesound.Ifyouaremountingthe
midsandwoofersintothesameenvironment,you
willneedtosub-enclosethemidrangespeakersinan
enclosurewithaminimumof0.08cu.ft.(2.3liters).
Thisguidelinealsoappliestoanyotherenclosed
applicationofthemidrangedriver:
Enclosuressmallerthan0.08cu.ft(2.3liters)will
alterthefrequencyresponseofthemidrangedriver
andresultindegradedsoundquality.
