Figure 18. Choke Lever
2. Place the
Engine ON/OFF switch
(Figure 17) in the "ON"
position.
3. Place the
Choke Lever
(Figure 18) in the "
CLOSED
"
position.
The CLOSED position of the choke
lever enriches the fuel mixture for
starting a COLD engine. The OPEN
position provides the correct fuel
mixture for normal operation after
starting, and for restarting a warm
engine.
NOTE
CAUTION
The engine speed has been
set at the factory. Changing the
governor speed could damage
the vibratory roller.
5. Grasp the starter grip (Figure 20) and slowly pull it out. The
resistance becomes the hardest at a certain position, corre-
sponding to the compression point. Pull the starter grip briskly
and smoothly for starting.

CAUTION
DO NOT pull the starter rope all the way to the
end. DO NOT release the starter rope after
pulling. Allow it to rewind as soon as possible.
4. Rotate the
throttle lever
(Figure 19) halfway between
fast
and
slow
for starting. The engine governor speed is factory
set to ensure optimum operating speeds.

Electric Start
1. Turn the key to the "START" position until the engine starts.
If the engine fails to start within 5 seconds, release the key, and
wait at least 10 seconds before operating the starter again.
