C Load refers to the capacitive load the phono preamplifier presents to
the cartridge. (Of course, any capacitance in the phono cables is beyond
the preamp’s control and should be added to this figure.) This number is
normally

F for moving coil (MC) cartridges, and can range from
about 0p F to 350p F for moving magnets (MM).
Specifically, we include precision capacitor values of 0pF (“pico-
Farad”), 50pF, 100pF, 150pF, 200pF, 250pF, 300pF, 350pF, plus 0.01
µ
F
(“micro-Farad”).
The best choice for capacitive loading is whatever sounds the best with
your MM cartridge—you cannot damage a cartridge by playing at the
“wrong” capacitance. With the Nº32, for the first time, you can make
this determination in real time, from your listening position, using the
remote control to access this menu item.
