Your RG1 transceiver can be used with an external GPS device. Attach the
included GPS adaptor cable (black) to the radio’s GPS connector (tan). Then, the GPS
adaptor cable can be connected to a GPS device. When connected to a GPS receiver,
the RG-1 transceiver will display the Midland Globe icon. When the globe icon is dis-
played, the GPS NMEA data is available for transmitting distress or DSC calls. If the
GPS is disconnected or the RG1 is not receiving NMEA data from the GPS, a minute-
long warning tone will sound (can be deactivated by pressing any button). This tone
will sound every 4 hours. In conjunction, the globe icon will flash indicating no GPS
information available.
Many GPS units allow you to configure the NMEA0183. This can be done
through the GPS set-up menu.
