fully and observe the informa-
tion contained in them.

of the unit and observe the
safety instructions.

A

For safety reasons, chil-
dren under the age of 16

as well as people, who are not
acquainted with the
instructions should not use
these Accu Shears.

Keep these instructions in
a safe place.

2. Information Concerning the Instructions

The GARDENA Accu Standard
has been designed for the cut-
ting of grass edges and small
grass surfaces in private gar-
dens / hobby area.

It is absolutely necessary to
observe the manufacturer’s
operating instructions to ensure
the unit’s proper functioning.

The operating instructions
also contain advice for service,
maintenance and repair.

A

Caution! For safety
reasons, the unit should

not be used for cutting
hedges or chopping in the
sense of composting.

3. Proper Use

Before first operation and with
empty cells charge the Shears
for approx. 20 hours. The usual
charging time is about 14 hours.
For this, just insert charging
cable

1

into the charging

socket

2

of the shears, and

charging unit

3

into the wall

socket.

A

Attention : make sure
that the mains voltage

is correct. Charge only in a
dry place ! The cells discharge
by themselves when stored
for a longer period of time.
Therefore, the unit should
be recharged before each
operation.

4.1. Using the Shears (ill. B)
The area to be cut should first
be cleared of stones and other
solid objects. The safety stop
switch

4

prevents your

GARDENA Shears from being
switched on unintentionally. For
operation of the Accu Shears,
push safety stop switch

4

to

the left to release (position “I”).
Then press on starting switch

5

.

4. Initial Operation

( ill. A)

Please only use the original
GARDENA grass cutting
blades for Accu Standard,
Art. No. 2345.

A

Before (dis-)assembly of
the grass cutting blades,

push safety stop switch

to lock starting switch – to the
right (position “0”) and dis-
connect from the mains sup-
ply if necessary (charging pro-
cess). Risk of injury !

Loosen screws

and take off

grass cutting blades. When in-
stalling the new grass cutting
blades ensure that upper blade

8

is situated exactly in the mid-

dle of the lower blade

9

. Turn

the cam gear

0

so that

the marking line

A

is pointing

exactly forwards.

First guide the blade under-
neath the blade pegs

B

of the

carriage. Make sure that the
cam

C

snaps into the connect-

ing link

D

. Tighten the screws

7

.

Please note :

.

Before inserting new blades,

clear the gear area. Lubricate
the gear wheels with some
non-corrosive grease (Vase-
line).

.

Always lightly oil the blades

before and after use (do not
grease!).

Assembly of Extension
Handle
(ill. B, D)
Cutting lawn edges without
kneeling or bending down. The
Accu Shears are pushed over
lawn on their sliding sled by
means of the GARDENA Exten-
sion Handle (Art. No. 2354).

By doing so, the handle or shears
can be swivelled up to 45° on
either side:

.

Push safety stop switch

4

to the right in order to lock
Accu Shears (position “0”).

.

Push the extension handle

E

into the mounting point

F

at the desired angle until the
catch locates.

.

Push the handle plug

G

into

the handle socket

H

. The

unit is ready for operation.

.

Only release safety stop

switch

I

on the handle and

press starting switch

J

.

.

Before disassembly of the

extension handle, remove
plug of handle socket

H

,

press release button

K

and

pull handle out.

Cutting grass :
Simply slide the shears along
the turf on their sliding sled

6

.

This ensures a constant even
cutting height. The large contact
surface makes the shears easy
to handle. The best cutting
results are obtained with dry
grass. However, there is no elec-
trical danger when the grass is
for instance damp.

When cutting power drops
considerably, recharge shears
immediately to prevent cells
from becoming completely
empty.

Lock Accu Shears after each
use ( push safety stop switch

4

to the right on position “0”).

A

The safety devices in-
stalled by the manufac-

turer must not be removed
and / or bridged, eg: by fasten-
ing down the starting lockout
of the pushbutton switch on
the handle as there is danger
of injury because the tool will
not switch off automatically.

A

Attention ! Blades may
cause serious injury !

5. Assembly of the Grass Cutting Blades

(ill. C)

Assembly of the Extension Handle

(ill. B, D)

A

For safety reasons, be-
fore (dis)assembly of

the grass cutting blades, push
safety stop switch

4

– to lock

starting switch – to the right
(position “0”) and disconnect
from the mains supply if nec-
essary (charging process).

Maintenance of the blades
The blades of the GARDENA
Accu Shears are non-stick coat-
ed. The blades should always

be sharp in order to obtain good
cutting results. They can be
sharpened by using a sharpen-
ing stone. We especially recom-
mend always immediate removal
of notches and burrs which
could be caused by stones.
The possibility of separating the
upper and lower blades (ill. E)
makes sharpening especially
easy.

The shears should be cleaned
thoroughly before and after use.

A few drops of oil (e.g. sewing
machine oil) applied to the
blades improve the cutting per-
formance. However, never
grease the blades.

For a constant clean cut it is
necessary to remove grass
residues and dirt even between
upper and lower blade. There-
fore, disassemble and clean the
blades also at this place from
time to time.
