Spark Plug Service
For good performance, the spark plug must be properly gapped
and free of deposits.
NOTICE
An incorrect spark plug can cause engine damage.
1. Disconnect the spark plug cap
and remove dirt from the area.
Use a spark plug wrench to
remove the spark plug.
2. Inspect the plug; replace it if the
electrodes are worn, or if the
insulator is cracked or chipped.
Clean the plug completely if you
are going to reuse it.
3. See page 48 for replacement
spark plug information.
4. Set the gap to 0.028 ~ 0.031 in
(0.7 ~ 0.8 mm).
5. After the plug seats, tighten it as
follows to seat the washer:

NOTICE
A loose spark plug can overheat
and damage the engine.
Overtightening the spark plug
can damage the threads in the
cylinder head.
6. Install the spark plug cap on the
spark plug.
