Installation Instructions for
R8970 Signal Generator
And
R8940 Feed-Thru Tach Sender
Mounting Instructions
a. Check R8970 Signal Generator to assure proper size drive tang is inserted fully into the
generator body. The drive tang is snapped into place, but is free to move allowing for
normal eccentricity.
b. Carefully insert the tip of the male drive tang into the female drive and screw the R8970
Signal Generator down finger tight. Tighten drive fitting securely; torque must not
exceed 15 lb-ft max. (Non-feed-thru and Feed-thru models)
Over-tightening can damage the unit and will void the warranty.
NOTE: The R8970 Signal Generator can be mounted in any position and works equally
well in either direction of rotation.
Electrical Connections
a. Make electrical connections to the R8970 Signal Generator, checking for clean, secure
connections.
b. Two conductor shielded cable is preferred to minimize electrical interference. The shield
may be grounded at the most convenient termination – one end only.
c. A twisted pair cable must be used if shielded cable is not available, to minimize electrical
interference.
For better seal, use heat shrink tubing over the spade connectors.
The use of single wire and common ground is not recommended.
An ohmmeter may be used to electrically check the R8970 Signal Generator. The
resistance will be between 200 ohms to 231 ohms.
Maintenance
No routine maintenance is required for the R8970 Signal Generator. If the R8970 Signal
Generator is installed in a harsh or severe environment, check terminations for clean and
secure connections. The snap-in drive tang may be easily replaced if worn.
NOTE: COMMON CAUSES OF FAILURE WHICH WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY!
Do not over tighten!
Use of incorrect Drive Tip can damage these senders.
