Benchmarking
• There are two types of benchmarking tools for testing the transfer efficiency of the hard disk;
the first type is based on the low level read/write sector, such as HD-Tune and HD-Tech, they
have similar testing principle, their read/write block can be set by testing software in the
disparity range of 4K-64K. They are suitable for testing the read/write rate between the hard
disk and mechanical attribute.
• The other test rate is based on moving (read/write) files, such as HDbench, FDDbench,
CrystalDiskMark and ATTO. The size of read/write block is decided by the operating
system; this type is recommended owing to most end-users are used to do files
copying/moving /creating/ deleting, meanwhile, this type of testing software tools are closer
to actual use environment and fit in with testing of interface bandwidth.
