J Exhausted or damaged batteries
can cause caustic burns upon con-
tact with the skin. To avoid this,
always wear suitable protective gloves in these
circumstances!
J Make sure you insert the batteries the right
way round (polarity). The “+” symbol must be
visible on the top of the battery.
J Batteries do not belong in the household refuse
bin!
J Every consumer is obliged to dispose of batter-
ies properly in accordance with the regulations.
J Keep batteries away from children. Do not
throw batteries into a fire. Never short-circuit
them or take them apart.
J Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and mucous
membranes if fluid is leaking from a battery. If
you come into contact with corrosive battery
fluids, flush the affected area thoroughly with
clean water and contact a doctor immediately.
J Remove the batteries from the device if they
have not been used for a long period.
J Remove exhausted batteries from the device
immediately, otherwise the batteries are likely
to leak.
J If you disregard these instructions and advice,
the batteries may discharge beyond their mini-
mum voltage, thus increasing the chance of
leakage. If your batteries leak, remove them
from the device immediately to prevent it from
being damaged!

Q Removing the insulation strips
from the batteries
j Slide open the battery compartment cover 11
and take it off the battery compartment 12 .
j Remove the battery insulation strips.
j Close the battery compartment 12 with the
battery compartment cover 11 .
j If the scales do not appear to work, check that
the batteries have been inserted correctly and
reinsert them if necessary.
j When you are inserting the batteries, make
sure that you do not permanently bend the
contacts.
j Follow the instructions for inserting the batteries
as described in the section on “Replacing the
batteries”.
Q Setting the unit of weight
note: The default unit of weight is the kilogram (kg).
The factory default setting for the scale as supplied
is “kg”.
j Slide the switch 7 (kg/lb/st) to the desired
unit of weight.
Q Setting the time
The value appears in the LC display 1 after
the insulation strips have been removed from the
batteries. The hour value flashes.
note: The time is shown in 24-hour format.
note: If you do not press a button within 30 sec-
onds, the time appears automatically as

j Press the -button 3 or the -button 5 to set
the hour value.
j Confirm your settings by pressing the SET but-
ton

the minute value.

Q Switching the time
display on/off
The time display can be switched off to increase
battery life.
j Press the SET button 4 for about 5 seconds.
The hour display goes out.
j Press the SET button 4 for about 5 seconds
again. The value appears in the LC dis-
play 1 .
