2 Ripping Music
Note:
The HDX is able to play CDs directly as well as ripping them. CD playback is initiated from
the System Setup menu.
• Press the front panel
open
button and insert a CD in the drawer. Press the
open
button
again to close the drawer.
• The HDX will begin ripping automatically. To view progress, use the front panel touch screen
to select
Ripping Monitor
from the
Home
menu. The CD will be ejected automatically when
ripping is complete. A typical CD can take up to eight minutes to rip.
Note:
Ripping a CD you don’t personally own constitutes a violation of copyright law. You must
ensure if inserting a borrowed CD for playback that the HDX is not set automatically to rip the
CD.
Note:
The HDX has some music pre-ripped when manufactured.
Note:
Although the HDX contains a limited internal music database, to be able to identify a
CD and download its associated data during the ripping process, it must be connected to a
working internet connection.
3 Music Playback
• Use the front panel touch screen to select
Browse Music
from the
Home
menu and then
either
Albums
or
Artists
. From the following menu choose an item and select
Play.
•
Selecting the
Quick Play
menu from the
Home
menu provides quick access to the most
popular, recently played and newest items.
4 Switching Off
• Switching off the HDX from its rear panel power switch is not normally necessary.
• The HDX can be put into shutdown mode by pressing the handset
shutdown
key or pressing
and holding the front panel
shutdown
button for 1 second. The shutdown button will flash as
the HDX shuts down and stop flashing but remain lit when it is in shutdown mode.
To switch the HDX back on from shutdown mode, the rear panel power switch must be
switched off and on again.

Do not switch off the HDX from the rear panel power switch or unplug it from the mains until
it is in shutdown mode.
