Skill Taught:
• Venipuncture
Multiple Venipuncture sites:
1. Dorsal Veins of Hand (3)

Recommends:
Use nothing larger than a
20-gauge catheter. This
will extend life of IV Arm
Skin.
Lubricate catheter with
silicone spray for easier
insertion.
2. Cephalic Vein
3. Median Vein
4. Basilic Vein
Instructions for Use:
1. Attach IV Bag to IV tubing.
2. Attach IV tubing to either
latex vein.
3. Allow fluid to flow through
arm and out other vein.
4. Clamp off flow of water.
The arm is now ready to practice venipuncture.
Replacing Veins and Skin:
When excessive leaking occurs at puncture sites,
either a new multi-vein system or skin should be
installed to reduce loss of fluid. The recommended
work area is at a sink.
Replacing Skin and Veins:
1. Cut off skin. This can be done with a sharp
knife or scalpel.
Replacing Veins:
1. Lubricate inside of skin with liquid detergent.
2. Begin at top of arm and roll skin down and of arm and
hand. Thumb will detach with skin. (See Fig. 1)
